Nut of Knowledge: The one with the Welsh in Brazil (and Patagonia)

We're back! Nothing like Supreme Court justice and an unhinged billionaire fighting for the soul of Brazilian democracy to get Gareth and Larissa back on the metaphorical airwaves. This was recorded just when things kicked off, with X-Twitter getting banned, fines being imposed on those who attempt to circumvent it, and the creation of the verified account Alexandre Files.Since then, a collegiate decision of five Supreme Court justices upheld Moraes's decision and a claim of unconstitutionality has generated quite possibly the first subpoena to a sitting Supreme Court justice.Fun times!Thank you for listening and see you where the skies are blue!

Hey, everyone! Welcome to this week's episode! On this episode we talk about international celebrities that decided, for better or worse, to meddle in Brazilian politics! And, for some reason, Jeb Bush (please clap). Check out our website later for shownotes! We'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for the graphic design and all the essential workers out there, keeping us safe. #stayhome #vaccinationsrule

Hi, friends! Sorry we're late! This week was supposed to be a simple state-themed episode. But then there was a coup attempt in the United States, so the if you're sick of hearing about it, just jump to the mid-point of the episode. Listen to the whole thing to get some good, old-fashioned Larissa rants. Also, since the recording of the episode, the situation with the pandemic in Amazonas has become more dire. People are lining up for oxygen, and dying without it. Bolsonaro has blamed the state for not handing out hidroxicloroquine and ivermectin, drugs known to have no effect on Covid-19. So, that's the latest. There are possibilities for international donations, which we'll add to our show notes (even though the government should be the one doing it). As always, we'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for out graphic design and all essential workers out there, keeping us safe.

Hey, friends! We're back! And better than ever!On this episode we discuss a woman who does NOT predict the future with aspargus and some Welsh attempts at preserving their culture intact in South America. We missed this so much!As always, we'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for our graphic design, and all the essential workers out there, keeping us safe. Sending a special shout out to everyone working on the vaccines, research, distribution, application, voluteering! You're all amazing.

Merry Christmas, everyone! And Winter Solstice! And all of our end-of-year celebrations! Now, you didn't think we'd leaving hanging, did you? As promised, here's Larissa's "I met Steve Guttenberg!" story.Talk to you in 2021!

Hi, everyone! Of course we're late for the last episode of the year! But we come bearing the answers to your questions while we sip our wine and spread our cheer! This year has been rough, but it has also brought us together: Gareth and Larissa became friends and then started a podcast to become friends with the world. Every day is a rollercoaster, but at least we can count on each other. Even if it's a day late.We love you! Happy Holidays and we'll talk to you next year!As always, we'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for our graphic design. We'd also like to thank essential workers, biomedical researchers, and vaccine volunteers. We also wanna thank the political activists who have kept the fight going despite the danger. #stayhome #wearamask #blacklivesmatter

Hello, friends! In today's episode, we talk about Gareth's level of attractiveness, Mario Lopez's next venture, and Brazil's energy grid. Yes, because Amapá is still having issues and power outtages and the thing is, this is not a new problem. It's just gotten worse recently with the substation going offline. So, get ready for some data-filled rants! And find that data on our show notes. At 45:50 we have content warning, as there was another case of extreme police violence against black people. If you are in a position that you are unable to hear about sensititve topics like that, feel free to jump to the 48:37. We would like to mark the occasion of 1000 days without Marielle Franco, city councillor in Rio de Janeiro, whose murder is still unsolved. She was black woman. As always, we'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for our graphic design, and the essential workers out there, keeping us safe. #blacklivesmatter #vidaspretasimportam

Hi, friends! Some housekeeping: we've been more consistently posting the pod on Saturdays and it actually seems like people prefer that anyway. So, that's now our new day of release  - SATURDAY. Also, we wanna do a mailbag episode, so if you have questions about Brazil, Wales, politics, wrestling or something you want our answer to, DM us @brazilnutspod or [email protected], we're still late this week because, well, life is messy and and we gotta make do. Forgive us?This episode is a rough one, but we do keep it light at the beginning, as usual and give a content warning before the real content starts. In this episode, we talk The West Wing, other questionable TV choices on our part, and the genocide of black youths in Brazil. On November 19th, João Alberto Silveira Freitas, 40, was killed at the hands on two security guards, in broad daylight, with 15 witnesses. He was a black man. We'd like to thank Uoster Zielinski for our graphic design, and wish him a happy birthday. We also wanna thank all essential workers, more likely to be in positions that are underpaid, such as waiters, delivery services, drivers, janitors, housekeepers and, in Brazil, more likely to be black and exposed to Covid-19. #blacklivesmatter #vidaspretasimportam

Hello, dearest of friends! Yes, we're buttering you up because we're late. We're here for you!As always, we'd like to thank Uoster Zielinksi for our graphic design, and all the essential workers out there, keeping us safe. This week is Black Awareness in Brazil and João Alberto Silveira Freitas was murdered for being Black while grocery shopping.
