Happy Tuesday! With a new version of Superman hitting movie theaters, I was so happy to chat with one of my favorite Men of Steel this week - you guys, it’s Brandon Routh! You know Brandon from playing Clark Kent/Superman in Superman Returns. He also played Daniel Shaw on Chuck, Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Ray Palmer/The Atom across the Berlanti Arrow Universe. We talk about this in the interview, but I feel like Brandon’s version of Superman maybe didn’t get the appreciation it deserved at the time. It was interesting to talk with him about living up to the legacy of Christopher Reeve and how it feels to watch David Corenswet wear the blue cape. We also discuss how Brandon was able to find closure by playing Superman again in the 2019 Arrowverse crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” I really enjoyed this conversation and Brandon is such a lovely, grounded guy. Can we talk about how great Steve Guttenberg is? He is obviously a terrific actor and has been working longer than I’ve been alive, but he is also just such a source of positivity— I could have kept talking to him for hours! He has a new graphic memoir out now called “It Rhymes with Takei,” which is all about his experience as a closeted man in Hollywood and then coming out at age 68. Wow, what an honor it was to have Carrie-Anne Moss on the show this week! You of course know Carrie-Anne from her iconic portrayal of Trinity in the Matrix. She also played Natalie in Memento and Jeri Hogarth in Jessica Jones and she’s currently starring as Greta Nelso alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in FUBAR. We talk about it in the episode, but Carrie-Anne is one of those actors, like Sigourney Weaver, who has become known for playing strong women. But I love how her strong women always have this layer of vulnerability. I’ve truly looked up to her for so long and it was amazing to get to know her a bit better!
