Bannockburn is a regional golf club west of Geelong in Victoria, and a long way from where Brett grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. Yes, that's right, Canada!Growing up in an extremely cold environment and working on golf courses in Canada, as it turns out, is seasonal work. And it wasn't too long before a young Brett travelled to Australia's Gold Coast, far away from the cold environment he was so used to.Working back in Canada for a few more years after visiting Australia, Brett felt maybe Australia was a place to get consistent work on a golf course. And so Melbourne was soon to become his new home.Join Brett and I as we discover his career in greenkeeping that brought him to Australia where he would find his future wife, enjoy a love of travel, knuckle down to become a superintendent, and I also learn a few new words and phrases along the way! He might be leading the team maintaining this well known course right now, but his career began far from the highs of such a facility.Growing up as a Gold Coast boy, Richard wasn't one of those kids who was always chasing golf. Whilst he began mowing lawns at an early age, his father was a butcher by trade, and Richard went about earning money trying his hand at a number of different jobs.When he did get an opportunity to work on a golf course, it wasn't the glamourous well known tracks of the Gold Coast we hear about today, but it was a start nevertheless! Idris informs us on the details of the works and how the course team are part of the construction of the new works. It was after reading an article written by the late great Peter Thomson that, as Paul puts it, "lit a flame".
