It was after reading an article written by the late great Peter Thomson that, as Paul puts it, "lit a flame". And so began his pursuit to work in the golf course architecture industry. This conversation with Paul explores some of Paul's work as an architect such as Metropolitan and Sanctuary Cove, and there's a brand new project soon to start. We also explore his partnership in business with Neil Crafter where they would ultimately become Crafter + Mogford, and I have an interesting question for Paul to close out our conversation, which is met with an equally interesting answer! This conversation will keep you entertained and maybe even asking yourself some questions, particularly at the end, so get comfy, put your ears on and join us as we go deep! You hit 'em clean and we'll keep 'em green! The Golfing Greenkeeper - InstagramThe Golfing Greenkeeper - FacebookThe Golfing Greenkeeper TV - YouTubeSend me an email to - [email protected] and places mentioned in this podcast:Crafter + MogfordDan Soutar - top100golfcourses.comWentworth Falls Country ClubRiversdale Golf ClubAlex Russell - top100golfcourses.comMetropolitan Golf ClubAvondale Golf ClubThe National Golf Club - Moonah CourseTara ItiTom DoakSociety of Australian Golf Course Architects (SAGCA)Rosanna Golf ClubHarley Kruse - SAGCA ProfileRoss Perrett - SAGCA ProfileLinks Hope IslandNeil CrafterHeritage Golf and Country ClubThe Sands TorquayGlenelg Golf ClubSAGCA Golf Architecture MagazineSanctuary Cove Golf and Country ClubThe Dunes Golf LinksSt Andrews Beach BrewerySt Andrews Beach Golf CourseNewgreens ChatswoodBougle RunRoyal Melbourne Golf ClubAlister MacKenzieDuntryleague Golf ClubEP.198 The Design Brief - Harley KruseEP.143 Keeper of the Greens - Keegan PowellEP.75 Keeper of the Greens - Tim WarrenEP.69 Sustainable Golf - Monina GilbeyEP.78 Keeper of the Greens - John MannEP.95 Keeper of the Greens - Richard ForsythEP.145 Keeper of the Greens - Craig GeeveEP.150 Keeper of the Greens - Full Turf Nerd with Craig Geeve

Phil and I talk about the lineage of the Ferrier family beginning with the well known Jim Ferrier, past golf professional of Manly Golf Club, and we go backwards from there. The main reason behind this podcast is some new information that has recently been found in China and shared amongst golf historians of the understanding of how Jim Ferrier from Manly Golf Club is related to John Ferrier, a founding member of Carnoustie Golf Club, and there's a new part of the story of designing the first golf course in China. This is a short history of sorts but one well worth taking in.
