S3, Ep : 58. The Delicious Flavours and Stories of Balearic Island Gastronomy
What happens when you put four Mediterranean islands, centuries of history, the sea, the countryside, and some seriously good cooks around the same table?
You get Balearic gastronomy!
This week on Spanish Loops, Fran and I are taking you to Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera to discover the food that makes these islands so much more than beautiful beaches and turquoise water.
And believe me, there is plenty to talk about.
From the famous Mallorcan ensaimada and sobrasada to Menorca’s wonderful Mahón cheese, from seafood and traditional island stews to the distinctive flavours of Ibiza and Formentera, every island has its own personality on the plate.
What I particularly love about Balearic cooking is that it tells a story. Centuries of Mediterranean influences, island isolation, local farming, fishing, and the simple need to make the most of what was available have all shaped these recipes.
And then there are the variations! Because, as we always say on Spanish Loops, Spain can never agree to make just one version of anything!
So, come hungry, Loopers. This week we're sitting down at the Balearic table to discover some of the most delicious food Spain has to offer.
And yes… there may be an ensaimada involved.
