5 Steps I Use to Find the Strongest Stocks Before Everyone Else — The PLTR Example

In this video, I break down the 5 steps I use to find leading stocks in the stock market, using Palantir (PLTR) as a real-world example. This process combines market trend analysis, sector strength, relative strength, stock screening, OVTLYR data, and disciplined entry timing.The first step is always the overall market. Before looking for individual stocks, I want to know whether the market is actually moving in a direction that supports new trades. The OVTLYR Trend Template uses the 10 EMA, 20 EMA, and 50 EMA to identify the current market trend. When the 10 EMA is above the 20 EMA and price is above the 50 EMA, the market is showing a mathematical bullish trend.Next, we follow the money into sectors. A strong stock inside a weak sector can have a much harder time continuing higher. That's why I compare sector ETFs against the S&P 500 to identify sector relative strength and find where the strongest areas of the market are developing.Once the right sector is identified, step three is finding the leading stocks inside that sector. This is where a stock screener becomes extremely useful. Instead of searching for stocks that have already fallen dramatically because they “look cheap,” we're looking for stocks that are already demonstrating strength and outperforming the broader market.Palantir is a great example. When the S&P 500 was moving sideways or lower, PLTR was showing significant relative strength. Its 10 EMA was above the 20 EMA, price was above the 50 EMA, and the stock was already moving in the direction we wanted to see. That's the type of market leader I'm looking for.But finding a strong stock isn't enough.Step four is using OVTLYR to make the process much easier. You can quickly see market trends, Fear & Greed, Momentum Alerts, Market Breadth, sector strength, and individual stock data. The commodity remains strong, but energy stocks and crude oil do not always move together. Oil is a unique asset class with different participants, contracts, and drivers. Technical levels matter, but geopolitical catalyst risk can overwhelm any chart.That’s why I’m still avoiding energy. Then head to https://www.ovtlyr.com.Learn more about OVTLYR: https://youtu.be/TUCbD5KovlcOil prices keep moving higher… but according to one energy analyst, they may still be too low.WTI pushed above $100 after new attacks disrupted Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, one of the major routes that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. But the bigger story may not be crude oil itself. The real pressure is showing up in gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined products consumers actually use every day.That creates an interesting disconnect. Diesel prices are trading at levels that historically lined up with roughly $200 oil, while gasoline prices are closer to what we’ve historically seen with oil around $125-$130. Crude itself is nowhere near those levels. Something in the relationship between crude and refined products has clearly changed.At the same time, the broader stock market still looks unhealthy underneath the surface.The equal-weighted S&P 500 has fallen sharply while the market-cap-weighted index has held up much better. The percentage of stocks above their 50-day and 200-day moving averages has been declining, new highs remain weak, and OVTLYR market breadth turned bearish well before some of the weakness became obvious in the major indexes.Bond yields are also moving higher. That matters because higher rates increase borrowing costs and put additional pressure on growth stocks, technology, software, and other long-duration assets.And despite oil moving higher, energy stocks aren’t necessarily moving with it. XLE was actually down while crude was higher, another reminder that the commodity and the companies tied to it do not always move together.That’s one reason I’m still completely avoiding the energy sector while geopolitical risk remains this high. The Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, pipeline attacks, refinery disruptions, and policy headlines can change the entire setup overnight. I don’t need that kind of catalyst risk in the portfolio.We also get our first look at the new OVTLYR Waterfall view.
