PROSECUTOR'S DEAL WITH THE DEVIL, CRIES IN COURT: KOHBERGER GUILTY

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted for her role in a scheme to sexual exploit and abuse multiple minor girls with financier Jeffrey Epstein.  Specifically the charges were conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors to participate in illegal sex acts, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts, sex trafficking conspiracy, and sex trafficking of a minor.  Prosecutors alleged from at least 1994 to 2004, Maxwell knowingly recruited, groomed, and ultimately abused victims under the age of 18. Some were as young as 14.   Facts laid out in court proved Maxell  befriended victims by asking them about their lives, and taking them to the movies or on shopping trips.  Then, provided guidance for how to deal with Epstein, as in giving massages which lead to sexual acts.    Maxwell was sentenced to  20-years. Maxwell first appealed her conviction, but the Appeals Court denied her motion.  Now Ghislaine Maxwell has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn her sex trafficking conviction,  arguing she was covered by a non-prosecution agreement the government made with her former lover, Jeffrey Epstein. Bryan Kohberger in court this week, admits he killed four University of Idaho students,  Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin.  Kohberger agreed to a plea deal when the death penalty was taken off the sentencing table. Family members of the victims were divided about the plea, some saying justice for their loved one was denied.  During a court hearing we learned that Bryan Kohberger did not plan to murder four people. He had a target. Sean "Diddy" Combs remains in jail after the split verdict in his sex trafficking trial. Next Tuesday, a bail hearing is planned for Combs, who hopes to be released until his October sentencing. Defense attorneys are pushing for a more expedited sentencing, but prosecutors say a pre-sentencing investigation is absolutely necessary in this case. Subramanian also pointed to the stark difference in the defense and prosecution’s sentencing requests as a reason to delay. Prosecutors arguments against bail are simple: detention is mandatory because he violated the Mann Act, and Combs has demonstrated over and over that he will continue to commit crimes despite any brushes with the law. Defense attorneys argue that Combs should be considered an exception to required bail, citing the conditions of the prison and responsibilities as a father and son as reasons for his release. In addition to letters from prosecutors and defense attorneys in regard to a bail decision for Sean Combs, both Cassie Ventura and Deonte Nash write letters begging the judge to consider the safety of those who testified and keep Sean Combs behind bars. Both Ventura and Nash told the judge they feared retribution after taking the stand against the mogul. A jury finds Sean "Diddy"  Combs guilty of two counts relating to transporting individuals for prostitutio, but the rap mogul is acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. First day of deliberations split the jury leaving Combs receiving a partial verdict, jurors sent a note saying they reached a verdict on counts two- five, meaning they were unable to reach a consensus on the racketeering charge, one of the biggest charges.  After the verdict, Combs' attorneys ask for bail. On Wednesday, the jury in the trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, which centered around allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, delivered its verdict on all charges.The jury acquitted Diddy of both racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but found him guilty on two counts related to transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution. Bryan Kohberger has reached a plea deal in the deaths of four University of Idaho students. The families of those killed received a letter signed by Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson telling them a plea deal had been worked out that prevents a trial and Kohberger will confess to ending the life of their child while saving his own. Kohberger will plead guilty to four counts of murder and one felony count of robbery, he will be sentenced to life without parole and waive his right to appeal. The judge still has to approve the plea deal. Judges have the final say on plea deals even when the prosecution and defense agree on the terms  The Bryan Thompson letter tells the victim's family the state was approached last week by Kohberger's defense team asking for a deal. Thompson says they met with available family members, weighed the right path forward, and made a formal offer to Kohberger. The letter continues, “We cannot fathom the toll that this case has taken on your family.  This resolution is our sincere attempt to seek justice for your family. This agreement ensures that the defendant will be convicted, will spend the rest of his life in prison, and will not be able to put you and the other families through the uncertainty of decades of post-conviction appeals.”   After hearing that a deal has been offered to Bryan Kohberger, the family of Kaylee Goncalves went public with their disappointment over the decision. Kaylee was just 21 when she was murdered in Moscow, and her family has been one of the most outspoken since their nightmare began, and they are not happy the prosecution has decided to let Kohberger avoid the death penalty. A post on the Goncalves family facebook page posted minutes after the deal was announced says "we are beyond furious at the State of Idaho. They have failed us. Please give us some time.
