Diddy Trial: Jury Returns with Everything Decided but the Racketeering Charge | Crime Alert 6AM 07.02.25

Sean "Diddy" Combs remains in jail after the split verdict in his sex trafficking trial.  Next Tuesday, a bail hearing is planned for Combs, who hopes to be released until his October sentencing.  Defense attorneys are pushing for a more expedited sentencing, but prosecutors say a pre-sentencing investigation is absolutely necessary in this case. Subramanian also pointed to the stark difference in the defense and prosecution’s sentencing requests as reason to delay.  Prosecutors arguments against bail are simple: detention is mandatory because he violated the Mann Act, and Combs has demonstrated over and over that he will continue to commit crimes despite any brushes with the law. Defense attorneys argue that Combs should be considered an exception to required bail, citing the conditions of the prison and responsibilities as a father and son as reasons for his release.    In addition to letters from prosecutors and defense attorneys in regard to a bail decision for Sean Combs, both Cassie Ventura and Deonte Nash write letters begging the judge to consider the safety of those who testified and keep Sean Combs behind bars. A jury finds Sean "Diddy"  Combs guilty of two counts relating to transporting individuals for prostitutio, but the rap mogul is acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. First day of deliberations split the jury leaving Combs receiving a partial verdict, jurors sent a note saying they reached a verdict on counts two- five, meaning they were unable to reach a consensus on the racketeering charge, one of the biggest charges.  After the verdict, Combs' attorneys ask for bail. On Wednesday, the jury in the trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, which centered around allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, delivered its verdict on all charges.The jury acquitted Diddy of both racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but found him guilty on two counts related to transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution. Bryan Kohberger has reached a plea deal in the deaths of four University of Idaho students. The families of those killed received a letter signed by Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson telling them a plea deal had been worked out that prevents a trial and Kohberger will confess to ending the life of their child while saving his own. Kohberger will plead guilty to four counts of murder and one felony count of robbery, he will be sentenced to life without parole and waive his right to appeal. The judge still has to approve the plea deal. Judges have the final say on plea deals even when the prosecution and defense agree on the terms  The Bryan Thompson letter tells the victim's family the state was approached last week by Kohberger's defense team asking for a deal. Thompson says they met with available family members, weighed the right path forward, and made a formal offer to Kohberger. The letter continues, “We cannot fathom the toll that this case has taken on your family.  This resolution is our sincere attempt to seek justice for your family. This agreement ensures that the defendant will be convicted, will spend the rest of his life in prison, and will not be able to put you and the other families through the uncertainty of decades of post-conviction appeals.”   After hearing that a deal has been offered to Bryan Kohberger, the family of Kaylee Goncalves went public with their disappointment over the decision. Kaylee was just 21 when she was murdered in Moscow, and her family has been one of the most outspoken since their nightmare began, and they are not happy the prosecution has decided to let Kohberger avoid the death penalty. A post on the Goncalves family facebook page posted minutes after the deal was announced says "we are beyond furious at the State of Idaho. They have failed us. Please give us some time. A tense moment Monday in New York as a federal jury deliberates charges that could send Sean “Diddy” Combs to prison for life.  Barely an hour into deliberations, the jury foreperson alerted Judge Arun Subramanian  that one juror was struggling to follow instructions. In response, the judge sent a note reminding jurors to deliberate carefully and obey the law as he explained it. Lead attorney for Diddy's powerhouse defense team, closes with mixed reviews as the disgraced rap mogul appears focused, glancing at the juror box as jury instructions are laid out before deliberations begin. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ lead attorney Marc Agnifilo mocks sex trafficking case in closing arguments, says charges ‘badly exaggerated' evidence of swinger lifestyle and threesomes, with recreational drug use.
