So money ...

2021 - The year that was; the best of times and the worst of times. As we close out the year and the season, we thought to reflect on the past year: the wins, losses, joys and sorrows. Grateful to have made it out alive. We hope you'll take some time to reflect too, and be grateful for the pockets of sunshine through the stormy year. Wishing you a Happy 2022!

Ever found yourself in a situation and wondered how you even got there? Ever noticed how often we just slide and glide through life, going through the motions, going with the flow? Think of the satisfaction that could come from being intentional and deciding the course your life takes, and not allowing it to just happen to you? This week we talk about being active and willing participants in our lives. Taking control and making decisions about the life we want, and not just sliding through it.

Sometimes in relationships, we can lose ourselves over time and before we know it, the person we were before we fell in love is completely gone, and in essence, the person our partner fell in love with is gone too. This week we talk about how to be in a relationship and not lose yourself; how to be part of a "we" without losing "me".

A round (well square) table discussion with our friends, Sipho and Thando Hobane, a young married couple like us, on the rather controversial topic of submission. What is it? Does it mean losing one's self? Is it unconditional or earned? Is it a thing in the 21st century?

In this episode, we talk about vulnerability - baring one's soul to another, at the risk of being hurt, but in the hopes that we won't be. We review how we (often subconsciously) fail at it, and the reasons why, from personal experience. Our overall lesson is that we should do better at making ourselves vulnerable to the people we love, because vulnerability is the gateway to true companionship!

When we look forward to marriage, we all build up these expectations about what it's going to look like, what the date nights will be like and the long weekends. Unfortunately, sometimes expectations don't become reality. In this episode, we chat about a few of our individual expectations that didn't necessarily become reality. Enjoy!

We've all looked at someone and thought, "I know exactly what they need, I know just how to fix them!". But do we? Can we fix people? Sadly, the answer is no. We can inspire, educate and support them towards change, but we humans simply cannot fix people.

In the words of Heraclitus, "The only constant in life is change." If this is true, why then are we so uncomfortable with change? Why is it so unnerving and scary to embrace and express, and yet, once done, it can be the most liberating feeling ever? In this episode, we discuss money. We talk about our value system, the foundation, which informs how we view and use money. We then tap into the importance of being conscious that two individuals can be at different phases of their financial lives, based on our personal experience being 6 years apart in age, and how to tackle that.
