S01E01 - First steps into a cultural journey

For this episode, powerful women share their experiences and thoughts. History, backgrounds, experiences, dreams, determinations, are just some of the things that let us understand the importance and the power of the role of women in folkloric manifestations and,  in general, music. These group of women are a few of an immense amount of inspiring and encouraging artists that work hard and with a shinning spirit to advance towards a more egalitarian world. On this episode we are traveling from the North of Brazil all the way down to El Río de La Plata where we meet with the Candombe. On this episode we travel back to the North region of Argentina and go further north to Bolivia and Peru. Irene López, the author of the book "Discursos Identitarios en el Folklore de Salta," will be sharing herself some ideas on one of the subjects that has been at the center of ours discussions. In this occasion we dive into other regions from Argentina. The Pampa Region and the Litoral Region. Both located to the center of Argentina. By the experiences and the knowledge from the great artists that join us on this episode we will discover the differences between this regions and the one that we have been discussing on the previous episodes. The big One concept that this episodes talks about is "Racial Imagination." On this Episode, we will dive into the depths of the concept of Folklore and Popular Song. At the same time, we will look closer into on of the genres from the folkloric music in South America, the Zamba. Through the explanations from different authors like Saúl Domínguez Saldívar, Irene López and Rodolfo Kusch, we'll discuss the origins of the Zamba and of the Popular Song related to the folklore and the authentic thinking from Latin America. In this discussion, the words and reflections from the artist Carlos Fernando Vargas, Silvana Irigoyen Nadia Szachniuk and Lorena Astudillo, will shade light on the meanings of the concepts being discussed. And they'll do it from their own experiences as thinkers and artists that spend their lives dedicated to create, reflect and engage in dialogues about the significance of music.
