Geoff Shackelford and Henry Discuss the Best Events of 2024!

We are here for another House Theory Thursday, our segment where we compare golf courses in a match play format. Hole 1 vs Hole 1, Hole vs Hole 2, and so on and so forth. Our idea of House Theory is to describe each hole based on its merits as the hole it is. Like a great house, every piece of a golf hole needs to match up. The green size, difficulty, length, surroundings, it all needs to fit. So, while it can be hard to compare a par 3 to a par 5, we can do it more successfully deciding which hole works better in and of itself. In this conversation, Henry interviews Katie Craig, a women's golfer from Western Kentucky University who is currently participating in Q School. They discuss Katie's experience at Q School, her path to and through college golf, her interest in golf course architecture, and her future plans in the industry. Katie shares her favorite golf courses she has played, including Lost Key and Bel Air Country Club, and expresses her desire to design her own course in the future. She also mentions her dream of playing the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. Katie is currently participating in Q School and is aiming to gain experience at the professional level while also pursuing her education. She has had success in college golf, with multiple wins and a strong performance at the Women's North-South Amateur. Katie is passionate about golf course architecture and has a desire to design her own course in the future. She is interested in interning under experienced architects and gaining practical experience in the industry. Definitely getting way out ahead of this one, but I hope you all enjoy this conversation as much as we did thinking through it. Mac Todd was a high level junior and collegiate golfer who, as you'll learn in this conversation, lost his passion for his own golf game multiple times across his career yet never lost interest in helping others improve their games. First time in a while we are leaning into a fully culture centered MBM, but here we are. A user submission episode, today we're talking about the different players needed on an ideal guys golf trip.
