This week, we’re unpacking a case that firmly refuses to sit in any of the usual paranormal boxes. It’s not a standard haunting, it doesn't quite fit the extraterrestrial abduction mould, and it's certainly not your garden-variety cryptid. We are looking at the deeply unsettling testimony of Dan Mitchell, a man who has spent the last forty years being quietly pursued by an impossible entity he calls 'The Harlequin' - but calls itself 'The Toothfairy'.
Starting in a working-class Milwaukee bedroom in 1981 and culminating on a freezing Wisconsin park bench three decades later, this is a story of missing time, weaponised anomalies, and generational stalking. It features crude disguises, implanted ‘screen memories’, and an entity that moves with the jerky, asynchronous grace of cheap animation.
But perhaps the most disturbing element of Dan’s story isn't that this creature is monstrous, but that it seems to genuinely want a relationship.
We delve into the historical Trickster archetypes—from the Commedia dell'arte to the Erl-King of Germanic folklore—to try and make sense of a phenomenon that operates entirely outside of human logic.
Put the kettle on, keep the lights up, and let’s get into it.
