The Lebanese government approved a U.S. plan to disarm Hezbollah, the group whose military wing was recognized by previous governments as a parallel security structure to Lebanon’s armed forces. A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan late Sunday night, devastating entire villages. Thousands are believed to have been killed or injured with hundreds still feared trapped under the rubble.
