PERCEIVING A PARENTAL GOD RATHER THAN A SOVEREIGN GOD

Today the Eyres start off with their adjustment from their European adventures and their current cover stories in GRAND magazine and Meridian Magazine. Then, in the second half of the show they do a bit of a deep dive into our divided world (they call it the vs. world) and make some suggestions for turning the "versus" into an "ampersand" in our personal relationships.

This episode comes to us from Athens, Greece where Richard and LInda are wrapping up a long stretch of travel that took them through Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Switzerland, and the Greek Islands. They were there for a motherhood forum, an Outer and Inner Landscape seminar, and a family gathering. Each had special meaning to the Eyre family.

The Eyres continue their 3-letter lesson series (which will become a hybrid book) with INC which is not a corporation but an abbreviation for Inclusive which is what the world needs now and the opposite of the exclusive, divisive, polarizing attitudes that dominate our politics and our news and divide our communities and churches and families. The Eyres come to us today from the Alps of Switzerland where they are participating in a Forum created by their son Tal on "Inner Landscapes" and the re-ordering of our lives. Eyre daughters Saren, Shawni, and Saydi are also speakers at the Forum, having just arrived from a mother's retreat with Linda and their other sister and sisters-in-law in the Balkans.

Linda is in Montenegro, on an outing with her four daughters and four daughters-in-law, so Richard took the opportunity in this episode to have a visit with the Eyres' "Bulgarian daughter" the famous photographer and artist Eva Timothy. Tune in as they discuss their relationship and their collaboration on the new book Beholding the Restored Gospel through a Familycentric Lens.

In this episode the Eyres try to finish what they started in the previous episode--fleshing in the connections between attitudes of Gratitude, Generosity and Stewardship and how they are all facilitated by humility, or as scriptures call it "nothingness". There are great scriptural promises to families when parents are able to "remember the greatness of God and their own nothingness."

Today the Eyres lead us on a deep dive into Thankfulness and Gratitude and what they can lead to. With Fall and the Thanksgiving season approaching, we can explore the connections between gratitude and happiness, and can find the circular relationship of the four complementing gifts and paradigms of gratitude, generosity, stewardship and humility or "nothingness."

Today, after some banter about New York and Tennis and Grandkids, Richard and Linda dive into a discussion about two opposite mentalities: The win-lose, opposition and competition based "versus thinking" and the win-win, cooperation and synergistic "ampersand thinking." It is a comparison that is relevant in thinking about politics, about society, and about relationships.

The advance copies of the Eyre's new book arrived today, so they share their feelings about it in this episode and focus on the inclusivity and comfort that comes in thinking of God as a literal Heavenly Father and viewing all humans as our spiritual siblings. The connecting areal roots of Banyan trees or the intertwined roots of Aspen trees are a metaphor of how we are all connected.

Continuing their preview of their forthcoming book FAMILYCENTRIC, Richard and Linda, after offering some thoughts on the movie they saw the night before, focus on a list of the dramatic changes that come over someone who has a paradigm shift and progresses from believing in the divine only as a creator and a power to believing in God as our literal Spiritual Father.
