The FBI Seized $17 Billion. A Fake Deed Can Still Take Your House.
FBI Director Kash Patel says Operation Blackout has seized about $17 billion from overseas fraud rings, and the FBI will work with the Justice Department to get that money back to the Americans it was taken from. Matt looks at why nobody should hold their breath: no timeline, no claims process, and a track record where OneCoin victims got back about a penny on the dollar. These crews go after the equity in your house, often by talking an older parent into a home equity loan, and Matt shows the one free move that stops that loan cold. Then he turns to a district attorney's warning for everyone who owns their home outright. A caretaker's name ends up on a Philadelphia man's house for $1, the county records it without checking the signature, and the homeowner is left to pay a lawyer to get it back. Matt answers Graham Stephan's claim that deed fraud only happens a few hundred times a year (Philadelphia alone has taken 152 reports this year), and gives three steps: set up your county's free recording alert, freeze your credit at all three bureaus, and pull out your title insurance policy to see whether it's an owner's policy or a homeowner's policy, plus the newer ALTA 49.1 forgery endorsement to ask your title company about.
