The Miami Dolphins knew there would be growing pains this season. But after an ugly Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, should Dolphins fans already be worried? Award-winning columnist Dave Hyde and former Miami Dolphins defender Kim Bokamper break down a frustrating season opener in which the Dolphins were pushed around at the line of scrimmage, struggled to generate a pass rush, and hurt themselves with costly penalties, turnovers, and major breakdowns on special teams. xpectations were fairly low for the Miami Dolphins heading into the 2026 season. The team's performance in its Week 1 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders struggled to meet them. In what most prognosticators suggested was one of, if not THE, most winnable games on the Dolphins' 2026 schedule, the Dolphins looked mostly sluggish and out of sorts. On defense, the team couldn't generate a pass rush and struggled to stop Kirk Cousins' dink-and-dunk approach. Ashton Jeanty looked like Larry Csonka, driving through the Dolphins' defensive line with little resistance. On offense, the Dolphins struggled to protect Mailk Willis, who himself ran into several sacks. While De'Von Achane looked good in spurts, the Dolphins' inconsistency and inability to stop the Vegas offense meant they got away from the run. But it wasn't all doom and gloom. Jacob Rodriguez was a bright spot in his first NFL game, as was Caleb Douglas. Malik Willis used his physicality and athleticism to run for a touchdown. The much-maligned secondary came away from the game with a pair of interceptions. And, above everything else, a baseline was set for the remainder of the season.
