Have you been so focused on the outcome of your creativity that it stops you from working consistently? Do you feel stuck with finding your style? Today we’ll unpack a different approach for making creative decisions that can supercharge your motivation, tap into your skills, and ultimately find a creative process you love.

Because we live in a world that rewards production and tangible outcomes, it’s no surprise that the same standard applies to creativity. When I’m feeling overly fixated on a perfect result, I like to refocus my energy using a Process Enjoyment Test (PET).

Remember that feeling of freestyling and feeling good about your art? PETs can help you get back to that place of excitement and curiosity, regardless of the actual finished product.

PETs are a measurable, and specific creative process with up to four constraints: media, subject, method, and scale. In this episode, I share examples of what each category might look like depending on your medium, share how I’ve applied them in the past, and walk through an outline for building your own PET.
