Day 304 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Obadiah warns the Edomites (a group living in the mountains) that bad times are coming for them because they acted mean to their relatives, the Israelites, during Israel's rough patch. God's not happy with Edom's pride and betrayal, so He's going to make them fall big time. In the end, Israel will come back strong and take over the places Edom took from them, while Edom will disappear. It's a message about payback and God taking care of His own.People shouldn't ignore what God says. Jesus, who was made a little lower than angels for a bit, suffered death to help everyone. Because of this, he's now super important and above angels. But even when they are super sad, they remember that God is kind and cares about them. Every new day, they think about God's love. They hope that if they think about what they did wrong and say sorry, God will be close to them again.Paul writes a letter to Philemon from prison. In this letter, Paul talks about a man named Onesimus, who used to be Philemon's slave but ran away. However, Onesimus met Paul and became a Christian. Now, Paul is sending him back to Philemon, not as a slave, but as a brother in Christ. Paul asks Philemon to welcome Onesimus with love and to forgive him. He even says if Onesimus owes Philemon anything, Paul will pay it back. Paul trusts that Philemon will do even more than he asks. It's basically a "last episode" recap of the temple's destruction and the tragic consequences of ignoring prophetic warnings. Babylon's waters (representing its strength) will dry up, and it will become a desolate, uninhabitable wasteland. The people of Israel and Judah, whom Babylon once took captive, will return to their land, while Babylon will face its downfall for its arrogance and cruelty. The chapter ends with a symbolic act: Jeremiah instructs Seraiah to read this prophecy when he reaches Babylon and then throw the scroll into the Euphrates River, symbolizing the sinking and utter destruction of the city. In 2 Timothy 4, Paul tells Timothy to always be ready to talk about his beliefs, no matter what. He says a time will come when people will only listen to what they want to hear. Paul tells Timothy to stay strong, face tough times, and do his job well. Thinking about his own life, Paul feels he's near the end and believes he's done his best. Even though some friends left him, he's comforted knowing God's always there. Jeremiah announces its impending doom at the hands of Babylon. Despite Moab's pride and its trust in its fortresses, the nation will be devastated, and its people will wail. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope as God promises to eventually restore Moab's fortunes. The start of Chapter 49 focuses on the Ammonites. They're called out for seizing Israel's land, but just like with Moab, Babylon's going to give them a hard time. Yet again, amid the doom and gloom, God promises a future restoration for Ammon. In 2 Timothy 1, Paul starts off with some warm vibes, expressing his longing to see Timothy and reminiscing about Timothy's sincere faith, which he first saw in his grandma Lois and mom Eunice. Paul then reminds him to fan the flame of the spiritual gift God gave him and not to be ashamed of the testimony about the Lord. Paul emphasizes the power, love, and self-discipline God offers, rather than a spirit of fear.
