Women Together - Season 3 - Episode 3 - Christian Journalism

Join us this Wednesday, May 25th, for the monthly programme, Women Together. Jo Siedlecka, editor of Independent Catholic News, will be the guest. She’ll share with us what has been our experience as a Catholic Woman journalist.

A bit about Jo:

I’ve been a reporter now for over 30 years and love my job. After training at the London College of Communication, my first job was four years on a local London paper. From there I began freelancing – for the London Evening Standard, BBC and other outlets. The main subjects I like to cover have always been people, human rights and the environment. This naturally brought me to reporting on Church issues (and brought me back to my faith after a long absence). I met Mother Teresa, Catholic charities working with the homeless, and missionaries working overseas. I soon began writing for the Catholic press and did a stint at the Bishops’ Conference Catholic Media Office.

In 2000, Tertio Millennio Adveniente, called for lay people to play a more active role in the work of the Church. I thought about this and wondered what I could do. I realised there wasn’t a daily UK-based Catholic news service – so together with some friends I set up ICN. I try to follow the advice of the patron saint of journalists St Francis de Sales who said: “You can attract more flies with a spoonful of sugar than a bucket of vinegar.”
