In this episode I am joined by Professor Vikki McCall, she talks about housing stigma and the importance of planning for an aging population. Vikki shares how she and co-founder Alasdair Rutherford have developed an innovative game bringing together a range of parties to play out different approaches to housing strategy. She explains how this is being implemented and the impact it is having across a range of sectors and tenant groups. Professor Vikki McCall is Chair in Social Policy and Employability Lead for the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Stirling and Co-founder and Creative Director of Socialudo, a social enterprise delivering serious games. Vikki’s work currently includes leading projects focusing on housing, ageing, stigma, co-production the role of front-line workers, service users, volunteers and the policy process. She is an expert in co-production, facilitation and networking, leading projects focusing on housing, ageing and future-proofing society. Dr McCall is currently Principal Investigator on the Intersectional Stigma of Place-based Ageing (ISPA) project (an ESRC funded project 2022-2027) and the INVITE project looking at supporting Inclusive Living support for older people in residential care (funded by the Longleigh Foundation). Vikki has worked in partnership with the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) and other key housing sector non-profit partners developing the concept of Inclusive Living, and related toolkit that supports a more inclusive approach to housing support. Vikki was part of the team that won the Sociological Review Prize for Outstanding Scholarship (2017) for work on tackling urban stigmatisation in disadvantaged communities and led the development of the www.asume.co.uk website, a resource for non-profit organisations, volunteers, researchers as well as health and housing practitioners to access the findings of a comprehensive UK study on dementia and volunteering. Vikki is Honorary Secretary for the Social Policy Association Executive Committee and Editorial Board member of Social Policy & Society. In this episode local authority commissioner, Steve Bardsley shares how he has helped to establish a small supports service in Leeds, creating new services which take a person centred approach to create homes and support for those who have higher needs.  Steve Bardsley has been working to improve the lives and outcomes for people with a learning disability for 38 years. He was involved in two successful hospital resettlement programmes - Darenth Park in Kent and as the Resettlement manager for the Fieldhead hospital resettlement in Wakefield and has held senior roles across health, social care and the voluntary sector. Steve is  currently the Joint Commissioning Manager Learning Disabilities, commissioning creative services for adults with a learning disability for Leeds city council and the Integrated Commissioning Board via a Pooled budget arrangement.
