Apple just had its fall event introducing several new products including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Dave and I ran through our thoughts on each product with a good amount of our time looking at the iPhone Duo. One of the great Apple executives announced he is stepping back from his roles at Apple. Phil Schiller will focus on his role as an Apple Fellow moving forward. Apple has announced price increases for its Apple TV and Apple One subscriptions. This is the second time in a year Apple TV prices has increased. It was a sad day for the music world as one of the greats passed away this week. Dolly Parton was celebrated around the world when news of her passing reached the public, and every bit of it was deserved. Apple's first event featuring its new CEO, John Ternus, has been announced for September 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. It is expected that John will introduce a bunch of new products, including the Foldable iPhone. It'll be an event to watch for sure. Apple this week also announced a new Mac mini with M6, M5 Pro, a new MacStudio with M5 Max, and M5 Ultra. That's a lot of power. Dave found a new site, that is about 25 years old, that has shown him a lot about learning guitar. We talk about the different priorities we have when it comes to learning the instrument. It's been quite a while since Dave changed the strings on his guitar (and even longer for me), so we take a minute to talk about how much we forgot and what's still in our minds. Since installing iOS 27, my favorite app is Apple's built in Weather app. The updates may seem small, but if you use it a lot, it's an incredible upgrade. This is how Apple should update apps--it's not just about adding 100 new features, it's about making those features work better for the user. Apple just finished a round of hardware price increases and now the company is increasing pricing on its subscription too. I would rather pay after seeing if the software is going to get any better. OpenAI is planning to release a new hardware device that will be a movable, screenless speaker built as an AI companion. OpenAI is also fending off a lawsuit from Apple accusing former employees, who now work for OpenAI, of stealing Apple's trade secrets. AI is also revamping Apple's plans for how it's going to release its next set of chips for its devices. AI is demanding more power for every generation of chips. Dave recently bought an M5 MacBook Air before the price hikes took effect. That gives him three MacBook Airs and he talks about the differences he's found. On this week's show we talk about the passing of Om Malik, a wonderful man and a friend to many. Dave has some thoughts on the impact of the recent price hikes for Apple hardware and what it could mean for future products. We still don't know what will happen if you replace Siri with Claude in iOS 27, so I asked Claude his understanding. Not as good as I had hoped. There is a Hide My Email bug that Apple software was alerted about last year that allows people to see your real icloud.com email address, but Apple has yet to fix it. For a company that preaches on how important privacy and security is, you would think they'd be all over this. Maybe they'll get to it next year.
