101 Not Out

Disclaimer - Eddie is still full of drugs. However, he is lucid enough to recall and review his performance at the Alfred Dunhill Links where he battled to make the cut but still slipped just outside the crucial top-100 in the rankings. Yet dramatic news reaches us that he has been offered a place in the Spanish Open this week. Just before packing he, Iain and Andrew are able to reflect on Adrian Meronk's win in St Andrews as well as a remarkable performance by Michael Stewart. They also discuss Tom Kim's military avoiding win at the Asian Games, talk a bit about daylight savings time and Iain mentions a trip to Cornwall.Episode brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd by: www.ping.comChipping Forecast on Substack: https://substack.com/@thechippingforecastInstagram: @chippingforecastEmail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Three men in three countries and plenty of rambling this week as Andrew, Eddie and Iain convene to discuss events at the Presidents Cup, where the USA won by their now habitual method of storming the singles. They look back on the French Open where Matt Fitzpatrick continued his impressive year and Eddie gives us an update on his injury, preparing for one of his favourite events of the year as the clock ticks on his season. Andrew then decides to tell a story of intrigue, oil money and the SAS - all wrapped up in a golf course where nobody but Henrik Stenson occasionally plays. A two-ball this week as Andrew is forced to miss the tee-time, so there is far less ramble and much more weighty chat from Eddie and Iain as they look back on a dramatic finish to the BMW PGA at Wentworth. JJ Spaun took the title and firmly made his point to Brandt Snedeker after omission from the USA side, while Manuel Elvira emphatically made the point that pressure can make you look like a bit of a tool in golf. Eddie is able to offer an update on his own golfing status as he battles a neck problem and also a problem with late-night tweeting while taking medical-grade painkillers, but then doubles down as we discover what Bryson's homecoming actually means. This episode is brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.uk (25 years and counting)And also by: www.ping.comChipping Forecast Substack: https://substack.com/@thechippingforecastInstagram: @chippingforecastEmail: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. The trio gather this week in something of a torpor, induced either by long waking hours or by tranquilisers. There is an update on Eddie's withdrawal from the Irish Open and subsequent treatment, before the mood is lightened by reflections on Europe's victory in the Solheim Cup. There is also discussion of the two different sides of Shane Lowry on display as he romped to a record win at Doonbeg. To give some much needed energy to proceedings, Iain tells a story about a queue.Brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd by: www.ping.comChipping Forecast on Substack: https://substack.com/@thechippingforecastOn Instagram: @chippingforecastAnd email us: [email protected] Hosted on Acast. Well, what a Walker Cup that was. Andrew and Iain have made their respective early flights back from the south-west of Ireland and join Eddie to discuss one of the most dramatic events, not just in golf or indeed sport, but in the history of human kind. We hope that does it justice. There is obvious praise for the GB & I side and discussion of who might have the most success in the professional game. Speaking of which, we also review events in the Alps where Thriston Lawrence showed that there actually is something better than a fit PC as he took down Paul Casey on the fourth extra-hole. Eddie gives us his thoughts on his own form as he looks forward to a meeting with the Don at the Irish Open and Andrew and Iain look forward to a trip to The Netherlands for the Solheim Cup. A slightly delayed episode with Eddie making his way to the mountains and Iain having a similarly difficult journey to a car hire depot. But it has given all three extra time to reflect on The British Masters at The Belfry, where Eddie grafted his way through four rounds and Joe Dean earned his maiden Tour win in style. Further reflections are offered on Scottie Scheffler's dominance at the Tour Championship and musings on whether Viktor Hovland might just be too curious about the world to reach the very highest level in the game. There's other stuff as well, but we're just keen to get it published as soon as possible.Brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd in association with: www.ping.comSign up for The Chipping Forecast Substack: https://substack.com/@thechippingforecastEmail: [email protected]: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast. This week, the usual trio are spiced up by a bit of Andy Murray who tells us tales of his actual hole-in-one which absolutely definitely did happen. The tennis guy also offers sage advice for Eddie after walking off the course and his subsequent decision to take on a coach. There's a review of the Nexo Championship where Scott Jamieson took the title and Shaun Norris was victim of the ruling that few people had heard of. Meanwhile Wyndham Clark demonstrated again why he's a rival to Scheffler for player of the season and Rory showed us a return to form. Finally, if not dead, LIV golf is certainly quite unwell and the three have their say on where things could and should go from here as well as wondering if they should make friends with automated mowers as a way of ensuring decent treatment by our robotic overlords in the not too distant future. This episode is brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd also: www.ping.comSubscribe to The Chipping Forecast on Substack: https://thechippingforecast.substack.com/Email: [email protected]: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast. This week Eddie reveals the tale behind his missed cut in Denmark, struggling with illness but still finding something to give him encouragement moving forward. There is quite the achievement at the US Amateur to discuss as Jack Whaley provides a rare British win, while Scottie Scheffler ends his drought with a flood of birdies in Memphis. At the same tournament Rory McIlroy's form gives him cause for concern and we prepare ourselves for the dream pro-am line-up in Aberdeen. This episode is brought to you by: www.petermillar.comAnd also: www.ping.comThe Chipping Forecast is also on Substack: https://substack.com/@thechippingforecastEmail: [email protected]: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast. Eddie, Iain and Andrew come together once again to discuss all manner of things in the crazy world of golf, not least Eddie's return to tour life which lasted only a couple of days in the Scottish Borders. There is also a review of The Wyndham Championship, Charley Hull's putting nightmare and a grim weekend for Project Badger. This episode is brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd also by: www.ping.comTHE CHIPPING FORECAST ON SUBSTACK: https://thechippingforecast.substack.com/Email: [email protected]: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast. Andrew is still hunting for a wayward drive somewhere, so Iain and Eddie once again hold the fort and bid farewell to major golf for the year with a round-up of The AIG Women's Open. There's plenty of discussion of the dramatic finish as Esther Henseleit holed a monster putt to take it into a play-off, then saw a cruel human ricochet end her hopes with Shiho Kuwaki keeping the title in Japanese hands. There are reflections on the performances of Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, while offering thoughts on Charley's caddy prank, before both Eddie and Iain then realise they are in no position to criticise. There is then discussion of the Solheim Cup as Europe's captain Anna Nordqvist finalises her team, a review of The Rocket Classic on the PGA Tour as another young gun gets firing and Eddie contemplates his own return to competitive golf.Brought to you by: www.petermillar.co.ukAnd: www.ping.comEmail: [email protected]: @chippingforecast Hosted on Acast.
