216: The Monster Men

Doctor Who publishing entered a new era in 2005, with the arrival of a trio of hardcover books. The second of these was The Monsters Inside, written by Steve Cole, who joins us to chat about the experience of something old - and something new. Plus, it's the only novel (that we know of) which has resulted in not only the one reference on TV, but two!

We really got a buzz from doing this episode, on the popular Eighth Doctor Adventures novel Eater of Wasps. Kenny and guest co-conspirator Matt Michael look back at this novel from 2001, and share their dislike of the insects (aka "yellow gits"), and enjoy Trevor Baxendale sharing the origins of the story. Plus, we also feature a reading from the end of the book too!

We've been itching to bring you this episode for months - and here it is! The Cyberleader himself, David Banks, has joined us to chat about writing Iceberg, his New Adventures novel, which was originally published in 1993. Dave and Kenny both fanboy over David, as well as showing their love of his other book, Cybermen, which they both got in 1989.

We've reached the Sixth Doctor, as we continue our adventures and our quest to feature a different incarnation each day. We take a look at the first novel which expands on the era of the Sixth Doctor, long before Big Finish bought us Evelyn Smythe, Flip, Constance, Charley/Mila, or anyone else. Kenny has tracked down author Stephen Marley, and the pair have an in-depth chat about writing the book, touching on Hammer Horror, Ingrid Pitt and a biography of the Virgin Mary, along the way. A must for those who enjoy Gothic fiction!

Today, we venture into BBC Books territory and head to 2002, for The Suns of Caresh. We chat with author Paul Saint (Paul Beardsley being his real name), to discuss this novel.
