Learning languages to us aspiring polyglots changes how we see the world around us and how we interact in our everyday lives. For many of our listeners, language learning has been a great hobby with which they spend hours dedicating their lives to. Polina is a Russian university student studying linguistics. Polina created a student organization at her university to bring language-enthusiasts together. Some of her hobbies include reading, watching TV series and films in other languages, making videos, and running. Polina is currently studying English, Spanish, Norwegian, French, and Greek. Welcome back to the first episode of Season 3 of the Polyglot Perspective Podcast! We apologize for the hiatus and are very excited to be back! We cannot wait to share more about language learning with you all! Learning a language not only opens doors of opportunities but also helps give insight into another’s culture. Within the United States alone (according to 2022 data published by Ethnologue) 422 languages are spoken. The U.S., being a melting pot, consists of people from various countries holding the most mixed people in the world. Taylor Torres is a high school senior from Southern California currently learning Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and dabbling in lots of languages such as Korean and Thai. She is the founder of Polyglot Perspective and hopes to inspire youth from around the world to learn languages to bridge the gap between different cultures.  In this episode, Taylor Torres discusses her personal experience being a mixed individual in the U.S. and will be discussing what it's like growing up in a Vietnamese-Chinese-Mexican household, along with some preconceptions of mixed people. Lastly, Torres will share what motivated her to start a multilingual, multicultural polyglot youth community as well as updates for the organization. We've been on a bit of a hiatus for the past year but we are back and are more than ready to continue sharing both our personal experiences with language learning as well as those of various international guests with you!  For Season 3, we will be hearing from different voices within the language Instagram, YouTube, and social media communities. From chatting about what it's like to be a language learning creator on these platforms to sharing the truth about language related majors in university and beyond, we cultivated fascinating discussions with countless creators (some of which you might be familiar with) and are incredibly excited to share them with you! Going forward, all episodes will be released on Friday at 2 pm PST / 5 pm EST. Welcome back to the sixth episode of Season 2 of the Polyglot Perspective Podcast! When learning a language, reading, writing, listening and speaking tie into our learning journey. Among the four, many people believe speaking is the most difficult. Many learners lack confidence, and don’t know how to go about talking to native speakers in their target language. Sam Coates is a university student studying business analytics and accounting. Sam was born in New York but moved to Jamaica as a toddler (as his family is Jamaican) and returned to the U.S at 14. Some of his hobbies include doing track, playing soccer among other sports. Sam is currently studying Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean and Spanish. Sam also has an Instagram (@samslanguageprogress)  where he posts videos of him talking with natives.
