Send us a textOhhh Carl Tänzler — now that’s one of the creepiest love stories you’ll ever hear, and not in a romantic way. Buckle up.Carl Tanzler (also spelled Tänzler), a German-born radiology technician in Florida in the 1930s, became obsessed with a young Cuban-American woman named Elena Hoyos, who was a patient at the hospital where he worked. She had tuberculosis, which was a death sentence back then, and despite his best (and very bizarre) efforts to "cure" her, she died in 1931.Now, here’s where things go from sad to straight-up horror movie: after she was buried, Carl secretly dug up her corpse, took it home, and kept it... for seven years. Yep. He lived with her body, trying to preserve it with wax, plaster, wires, and all sorts of grotesque DIY embalming. He even dressed her up, gave her glass eyes, and slept beside her. I know — ick doesn't even begin to cover it.Eventually, people got suspicious, and in 1940, the truth came out. He was arrested, but weirdly, the public was kind of fascinated and even sympathetic — some people saw it as tragic devotion rather than just total lunacy. Send us a textChrista Pike is the only woman currently on death row in Tennessee and holds the distinction of being the youngest woman ever sentenced to death in the United States since the death penalty's reinstatement in 1972. Born on March 10, 1976, in West Virginia, Pike was 18 years old when she was convicted of the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer, a fellow student at the Knoxville Job Corps. Pike and two co-defendants—Tadaryl Shipp, who was 17, and Shadolla Peterson, who was 19—were involved in the crime. Shipp received a life sentence with the possibility of parole, while Peterson was released on parole after cooperating with the prosecution .​Pike's conviction and subsequent death sentence have been subjects of ongoing legal challenges. In 2023, a Knox County judge upheld her death sentence, rejecting arguments that recent rulings on juvenile sentencing should apply to her case .​In addition to her legal battles, Pike has spent nearly three decades in solitary confinement at the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville. In 2024, a settlement was reached that allowed Pike more privileges and increased interaction with other incarcerated women, addressing concerns about the psychological impact of prolonged solitary confinement .​Advocates for Pike's clemency highlight her severe mental illness, including bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as a history of childhood abuse and neglect. Send us a text Aileen Wuornos was an American serial killer with a life story straight out of a dark, twisted movie. Born in 1956, she had a hellish childhood—abandoned, abused, and forced to fend for herself from an early age. She ended up working as a prostitute along Florida’s highways and, between 1989 and 1990, killed at least six middle-aged men. While she initially claimed the killings were in self-defense, she later admitted that money and survival were the real driving forces. Her notorious case turned her into a kind of grim celebrity, inspiring documentaries and the Oscar-winning film Monster, where Charlize Theron brought her chilling story to the big screen. In 2002, after a lengthy legal battle and over a decade on death row, Wuornos was executed by lethal injection.
