Marie Curie

Marie Curie was a brilliant scientist who overcame great obstacles in her pursuit of knowledge. Her research led her to new discoveries in Physics and Chemistry that have had a huge impact on the world.

In 1969, the United States of America successfully sent the first men to the moon in the Apollo 11 Spacecraft. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to walk on the lunar surface. A third member of the crew, Michael Collins, manned the command module in orbit around the moon while Armstrong and Aldrin completed their trip to the surface in the lunar module. While on the moon they conducted scientific experiments, planted an American Flag, and took photos and videos. They left earth in a craft that was as big as a skyscraper and returned 10 days later in just a section of it about as big as a family van. Listen along to learn more about this incredible event!

Helen Keller was left blind and deaf after a childhood illness. She was taught to communicate by her teacher, Anne Sullivan. Together, they showed the world that people with physical disabilities can accomplish great things.  

Doctor Jane Goodall is a world renowned primatologist known for her groundbreaking research of wild chimpanzees in Tanzania. She is also an activist, touring the world to inspire others to help protect the chimpanzees, and to take efforts to conserve the natural world.  

During the American Civil War, a great battle was fought near the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg Address is a short speech that President Abraham Lincoln gave at a ceremony to dedicate a graveyard for Union soldiers who died in that battle. Harriet Tubman was the courageous woman who escaped from slavery and then returned to the dangerous South again and again to lead others to freedom also. Her name is famously linked with the Underground Railroad, a network of kind people who helped escaping slaves on their path to freedom. Join us to learn more about this historic woman!
