Nature Room 101 LIVE at Global Birdfair 2026

Once again the Nature Room 101 vault has been wheeled out onto The Osprey Stage at Global Birdfair ready for 3 naturalists to put forward their pet hates of the natural world. This year, Ryan is joined by guest co-host Megan McCubbin as they hear from Lira Valencia, Sean McCormack & Erica McAlister as they put forward their B*stard Birds, Idiot Insects & Sh*T Sealife. Naturalists come in all forms & my guest this episode is a perfect example of that. Bonner Black, musician, comedian, birder & nature communicator, is someone who brings all her passions & talents together to show her authentic self & I can see why people love her for it. I sat down with Bonner to chat about how her music is tied in with nature, what wildlife moments stand out for her & if she worries about the natural world. As I thoughts, this conversation was honest, funny & just darn right enjoyable. Here we are at the third & last episode of this year's mini series. It's been one heck of a journey & we are finishing on an interview that will make you feel lie you're sat in a rural Sri Lankan pub overhearing a conversation between two nature lovers 4 drinks deep. What a way to see this one out. A big thank you to JetWings Eco Holidays for making this mini series possible. It's been truly magical. Nerds it's time to jump back into our mini series as we explore the magical world of Sri Lanka. For episode 2, we are focusing our time on land & how things have changed over the years. Exploring colonialism & it's impact on Sri Lanka's indigenous people, the Vedda, we hear from 2 of the communities voices, Ranjila Attho & Gunabanda Atho. They share with us how they went from nomadic living to settling in one place & how this has effected their lives & the wildlife around them. This week on Nature News, Ryan starts with a story that Nadia ranks in the top 3 of "Most Pointless Stories" about honey bees being used to help people of the working world connect with nature BUT, it does spark a good conversation about nature connection. Nadia then follows up with a story from Amsterdam & how soon there will be no billboard advertising for climate harming goods! Nerds welcome to the first episode of our 2026 mini series, Lost In Sri Lanka. We start by unpacking the rucksack of wildlife tourism through it's pro's & con's. What does it mean to be a responsible wildlife tourist? What are the impacts of wildlife tourism if not properly managed? And how can we properly center a community to ensure tourism stays at the heart of the people? These questions all answered by people on the ground in this first episode. Guest appearances: Chandika Jayarante, Suchithra Hettie & Dilsiri Welikala. Nerd this week's news takes some critical thinking so put your nuance hats on! A new national park in Chile has all the good feels on paper but when we struggle to hear how indigenous people of the area feel, it gives us a bit of an ick. Africa's Elephant populations are all over the place from Botswana to Sudan, so how do we manage their conservation? And finally a story that shocked both Ryan & Nadia, stolen Peregrine falcons end up in the UAE....WHAT??
