Dr. Elena Sassu is a Post Doc at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vetmeduni in Vienna. She worked in several projects aiming to improve pig health and is currently leading the Work Package on Health Management within the European project EU PiG.
On this episode, we speak about the recent news concerning the shutdown of several slaughterhouses around the world due to the covid-19 pandemia. This situation impacted severely the workers from these slaughterhouses and meat plants but also, of course, the life and welfare of the animals involved, especially pigs.
Dr. Elena Sassu provides us with an overview of the implications and repercussions related to this situation and also brings awareness to the need of implementing clearer guidelines in the livestock sector for extraordinary cases like the present one.
