Why is it?

A. W. Tozer famously said that what we think when we think of God is the most important thing about us. Yet what do we think? All too often we get pulled into a way of thinking of God that has more to do with our tradition and less to do with what the Word says. Join us as we look at a scene in Jesus' triumphal entry where instead of celebrating, He cries. Join us as we look at the heart of God.

The sermon centers on the profound identity of the Christian as revealed in 1 Peter 2:8–10, emphasizing that believers are not defined by their former state of darkness or exclusion, but by their new reality as a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people—each designation rooted in divine election and redemption. Drawing from the ancient wisdom of Epictetus about human nature and responsibility, the message shifts to a biblical foundation: Christian identity is not derived from human roles or societal labels, but from being born again through the incorruptible Word of God, which redefines one's essence and purpose. As a royal priesthood, every believer is both a priest and a king, empowered to approach God directly and to offer spiritual sacrifices, no longer dependent on intermediaries. The Christian is called to live as a holy nation—distinct, separated, and set apart from the world's values, yet present within it, reflecting God's light and truth. The ultimate call is to embrace this identity with bold humility, rejecting self-doubt and worldly conformity, and instead living as those who have been transformed from not being a people into being God's people, and from having not obtained mercy to now possessing it—thereby showing forth the praises of the One who called them out of darkness into His marvelous light.

The sermon presents a profound theological affirmation of the divinity of Jesus Christ as the eternal Son, the radiant expression of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, drawing from Hebrews and Colossians to establish that Christ is fully God—co-eternal, co-equal, and of one substance with the Father. It emphasizes that Christ is not merely a reflection of God but the very embodiment of God's character, making Him the ultimate revelation of the divine nature, so that to see Him is to see the Father. The preacher argues that all human yearning to understand God—whether through philosophy, religion, or paganism—finds its definitive answer in Christ, who makes the invisible God visible, the intangible tangible, and the unknowable knowable. Through vivid imagery and personal reflection, the sermon underscores that Christ's life, actions, and compassion reveal God's heart toward humanity, creation, and the deepest longings of the human soul, culminating in the awe-inspiring truth that the incarnation is the final, complete self-revelation of God to the world.
