In this talk I separate the facts from the folklore.

We dive into the real history of eccentric widow Jenny Burton – the pipe-smoking 95-year-old whose family still live in Hucknall – alongside the very different tales of a murdered old woman, a young girl who hanged herself for love, and the chilling 1817 murder of Elizabeth Shepard whose memorial still stands on the A60.

Along the way we meet hooded figures, headless coachmen, vanishing legs in white breeches, and how one passionate speaker at Parameet accidentally created a brand new piece of local folklore by weaving all three together.

Along with a number of other notable stories from the region!

A proper deep dive into local history and explore also how ghost stories evolve.
