Faith After the High-Control Church: Rebuilding What You Believe

John Collins and Christian Arce discuss the difficult journey of faith after leaving high-control Christianity. Drawing from their experiences in different religious environments, they explore what happens when the certainty you once depended upon begins to collapse.
We discuss the fear and guilt that can follow leaving, the doctrine of "spiritual covering," the loss of identity that occurs when a church controls your choices and opinions, and the temptation to immediately replace one controlling religious environment with another. We also examine faith deconstruction, rebuilding a theological foundation from the ground up, establishing healthy boundaries, seeking qualified professional help, forgiveness, trauma, and rediscovering who you are outside the group.
Most importantly, we ask a question many former members eventually face: **If I leave the system that taught me everything I know about God, does that mean I have to leave God too?**
Leaving a high-control church may end one chapter of your life, but it can also begin a much larger journey—one in which faith is examined rather than dictated, questions are permitted, and your relationship with God is no longer dependent upon submission to a human leader or religious organization.
