E80: Scott Neumeister - Mythic Pathfinding and Connecting to Stories
My guest today is Scott Neumeister, Ph.D., a literary scholar, TEDx speaker, and mythic pathfinder from Tampa, Florida, where he earned his doctorate in English from the University of South Florida in 2018. His specialization in multiethnic American literature and mythology comes after careers as an information technology systems engineer and a teacher of English at the middle school and college levels. Scott co-authored Let Love Lead: On a Course to Freedom with Gary L. Lemons and Susie Hoeller (2019), and in 2021 he graduated from the Creative Mind Jungian Life Coaching program. Since 2024, he has served as an editor, author, and educator for the Joseph Campbell Foundation.
We discussed literature, mythology and digging into stories; Joseph Campbell and his writings, such as the ‘The Hero with a Thousand Faces’; Carl Jung, projections, and how the repressed always returns; the collective unconscious and the stories to which it clings; oral storytelling and the impact of cinema; and the Joseph Campbell Foundation’s Mythblast Newsletter.
