The situation in Sinaloa has reached a critical point as a brutal civil war rages between rival factions of the Sinaloa Cartel. Since September 9, 2024, violent clashes between "Los Chapitos" (the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán) and factions loyal to Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada have escalated. This power struggle erupted after the recent arrest of cartel leaders, particularly Zambada's son, which created a vacuum and triggered infighting.

The violence has claimed the lives of over 100 people, with many more missing. Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, has become a war zone, where businesses, schools, and even basic services have been paralyzed. Residents live in fear, with shootouts, blockades, and the burning of vehicles becoming part of daily life. The Mexican government has deployed special forces to control the situation, but the violence shows no signs of abating, spreading to other northern states as well. The chaos is having far-reaching impacts, with concerns that the violence may spill over into the United States.
