Drive-By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera - Disc 1 - Act I - Betamax Guillotine
When Patterson Hood and Earl Hicks came up with the idea behind Southern Rock Opera, Drive-By Truckers were just an apple in their eye. They hadn't even formed the band, much less record an album, but they knew they had an idea with some life in it. It was to be a semi-autobiographical account of them growing up in the South grapplin' with the dual-nature of that kind of existence. The story would be told through the lens of Ronnie Van Zant's (lead singer of Lynryd Skynyrd) tragic demise in a plane crash... BUT we'll learn more about that next time when we cover Disc 2: Act II: The Ballad of Lynrynd Skynryd!!!
