Transitional commoning - a conversation with Professor Kelly Dombroski

Interviews and surveys are common in qualitative research. But Suzanne has constructed her interviews in a completely original way. Multimodal.  Textured.  This week, we talk about the role of silence in interviews.  How do we understand and value silence?  How do we render it meaningful in research?

This week, Suzanne and Tara talk about interviewing in research. In qualitative methods, it often seems a default strategy for data collection. Suzanne talks about how she approached interviews through a different lens.

Our needs and goals are - so frequently - marginalized to enable the life and career of others.  How do we transform this balance between our aims and hopes - and the imperatives of others?

Welcome to our first conversation with Suzanne Morch-Lassen. Suzanne has one year to go on her PhD. Let's share this time.

Tara and Priscilla discuss the odd and unique isolation and atomization in academic life.

How do we balance the emotions of care with the labour of care? To answer this question, Tara and Kelly talk about Kelly's article titled "Communities of Care in the Nitty-Gritty of Commons-Work." The article is available to read from here: https://www.torrossa.com/en/resources/an/5956217

Making changes in our lives.  It is difficult.  But how do we decide when to make those changes?  And what evidence is useful to these transformations?

Tara and Priscilla talk about the challenges and difficulties when we compare ourselves with others.

Tara talks with Kelly about 'transitional commoning,' from her article titled, 'Can the commons be temporary?'  This discussion reveals how - even through disasters - life and transformations can emerge.  This research article is available here - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13549839.2019.1567480

Tara and Priscilla talk about bodies. And teaching.  And learning.  In supposedly digital times.
