The Duchess of Gloucester will stand in for Camilla at the Field of Remembrance ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, while King Charles will host a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes that same evening.Birgitte, the 78 year old Duchess of Gloucester) is a Danish-born member of the British royal family married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, a grandson of King George V.  The incident is a good reminder that perhaps the Slimmed Down Monarchy could use a few extra bodies.William is out of the country.  Kate is on a beak.  Harry, well, you know. And Meghan probably wouldn’t even visit the UK should a major tragedy strike and Harry wind up King.Meanwhile, the B team’s Princess Beatrice gave a heartfelt speech at the ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi about the importance of inclusivity in AI. Princess Eugenie was in Qatar, appearing radiant in a vibrant yellow ensemble.  The princess toured Doha’s M7 art center.What about secret weapon Sophie Wessex you ask? The Duchess of Edinburgh had a bit of a mishap at Legoland Windsor while playing a round of minature golf. In an unexpected turn, the 59-year-old managed to hit herself in the face with her own ball, captured perfectly by photographer Tim Rooke. Today could be a monumental day in the saga of Harry and Meghan.With Trump and Harry reportedly far from friends, there’s speculation that a future President Trump could, in theory, give the Duke of Montecito a one-way ticket out of the U.S. Royal watcher Hugo Vickers weighed in, saying, “I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Trump suddenly said, ‘Right, I’m sending Prince Harry out of this country.’” Other royal experts think the Sussexes new Portugal pad is just a vacation spot. Richard Fitzwilliams was quick to point out that Harry and Meghan probably aren’t looking to replace their California home base anytime soon. Charles and Prince William’s estates are under scrutiny after a report revealed they’re raking in millions from public services and charities through the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. The estates are expected to earn millions from leasing land to UK public services and charities. Together, the estates control over 5,400 leases and, with exemptions from business taxes, are projected to bring in at least £50 million. This includes revenue from the NHS, schools, and the Ministry of Justice, such as an £11.4 million lease to the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust and £37 million from Dartmoor Prison.Notably, some estate properties rented to charities, like Marie Curie and Macmillan, are now vacant due to rising costs. Despite a focus on environmental concerns, about 13-14% of residential properties under the duchies have low energy ratings, below the legal rental minimum of E. This has fueled calls for increased transparency and tax compliance, with critics urging that the estates pay corporation tax and operate similarly to the Crown Estate, which redirects its profits to the government.The investigation has cast a chilly spotlight on Prince William’s inherited estate, revealing that dozens of his rental properties reportedly fail to meet minimum legal energy standards. The probe, conducted with Channel 4’s Dispatches, found that 1 in 7 rentals in the Duchy of Cornwall estate are at the lowest Energy Performance Certificate ratings, F or G, which fall below legal requirements. Tenants in these properties reported struggling with mould, damp, and inefficient heating systems, pushing many into fuel poverty.One tenant shared that they can only afford to heat two rooms in their home with coal and wood, explaining, “It gets miserably cold, especially in the winter.” Another described drafts so severe that curtains move with the wind. Despite the Duchy’s £91 million in recent profits, the report found that necessary upgrades like double glazing and insulation were largely neglected, with some tenants fearing eviction or steep rent hikes if they asked for improvements.Prince William, now the Duke of Cornwall, inherited management of the estate from his father, King Charles, a staunch environmental advocate, who oversaw it until 2022. In response, the Duchy asserts its commitment to improving properties and pursuing net-zero status by 2032. Prince William was put on the spot while helping out at a Christmas party for the homeless in London. In his new ITV documentary, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, he is seen lending a hand at The Passage, a homeless shelter close to his heart. However, when he floated the idea of leaving the kitchen crew to mingle with guests, chef Claudette wasn’t having it. With a playful, “Oh, you’re trying to escape the work, I’m watching you!” Claudette reeled him back in, sparking laughter from the Prince. Clearly unfazed, William later took on the less glamorous job of clearing plates, showing he was game for whatever was needed.The documentary gives an inside look at the first year of William’s Homewards initiative, which aims to tackle homelessness with a strategy to make it “rare, brief, and unrepeated.” This goal takes inspiration from William’s childhood visits to shelters with Princess Diana and is focused on six regions, including Newport, Lambeth, and Aberdeen.
