Well, hello everybody, and welcome back to the Packernet Podcast, coming to you from Packernet Podcast Studios! I'm Cal Hutson, your friendly neighborhood football enthusiast, amateur offensive coordinator, and a man who recently discovered that assembling a crib is significantly more complicated than identifying a Cover 2 defense. Folks, we've got a tremendous show for you today. And yes, we'll be discussing the upcoming addition to the Hutson household, because my beautiful wife is currently expecting baby number three. That's right. Three children. At this point, my wife and I aren't expanding our family. We're establishing a practice squad. Our oldest has already informed me that he's willing to help coach the new baby, provided he gets final say over the draft selections. Our youngest is primarily interested in whether the baby will be taking any of her toys. And my wife? She's interested in whether I can manage to put my shoes away without needing a detailed scouting report. So far, the evaluation is not promising. But we're going to have some fun today, we're going to talk some football, and hopefully we're going to remember why this team means so much to so many people. Let's get into it. First things first, ladies and gentlemen, how about those Green Bay Packers? Thirty-one to seven over the Chicago Bears. Now, I understand that one game doesn't define an entire season. I've been watching football long enough to know that a team can look like a Super Bowl contender one Sunday and spend the next Sunday playing like somebody replaced the offensive playbook with instructions for assembling patio furniture. But thirty-one to seven against Chicago? That's the kind of result that makes a Monday morning feel just a little bit better. Jordan Love throws for 367 yards, two touchdowns, and finishes with a passer rating of 137.5. That is a quarterback operating with confidence, timing, and command. That's not just surviving the afternoon. That's controlling it. And here's the interesting thing about Jordan Love. News, as of this morning: Hargrave's Achilles tear is confirmed. He's having surgery, with a 2027 return planned, and it's the second Achilles injury on the defense in two weeks. LaFleur says Parsons is "getting closer," but he's out against Dallas, and ESPN says probably Detroit too. The team worked out defenders on Monday, including a defensive tackle. The next three games: Dallas: the Cowboys are 2-3 after losing 24-16 to Tampa Bay, which was winless before that game. Sal's main worry is that the Packers' defense has allowed 13 touchdowns on 16 trips inside its own 20. Detroit: the Lions are on their bye, and Sal is in full trash-talk mode about them. Carolina: a Thursday night game. Sal warns, "Don't you DARE say easy." Three commandments: fix the red zone defense, keep taking the ball away, and hold up in the middle of the line. Called shot: 3-0 over the stretch, which puts the Packers at 6-2 going into November. Cal Hutson and his Victory lap: the 31-7 Bears win and how the season got here (lost the first and third games, then three straight wins). Dallas on Sunday night is next. Lions (the most time): the 45-21 win in Arizona, including 24 points in one quarter, Gibbs' 151 yards and no turnovers. It covers how that affects us: they have their bye week before hosting us on Oct 25. What we need to beat them: stop the run without Hargrave, and force turnovers. Vikings: 5-0, but every win since beating us has been close, and their kicker made kicks from 54 and 55 yards while ours missed two. They host us on Nov 15, and they play the Lions on Nov 1, so one of them has to lose. Bears: 3-2 but 0-2 in the division, with Caleb Williams still out. Mainly they help us by losing to other teams. Five-point plan: protect the ball, take the ball away, stop the run up the middle, make the kicks, run the ball better.
