Story Transcript:

Hr: U dnu bijelog, snježnog dana u malom hrvatskom mjestu, Ana stoji ispred drafne mjesne zajednice.
En: At the bottom of a white, snowy day in a small Croatian village, Ana stands in front of the shabby community center.

Hr: Nije joj dobro, ali odlučna je.
En: She doesn't feel well, but she is determined.

Hr: Danas je dan izbora i ona mora glasati.
En: Today is election day, and she must vote.

Hr: To joj je dužnost i ona je ozbiljno shvaća.
En: It's her duty, and she takes it seriously.

En: A line of people waits patiently, all wrapped in winter coats, with mist rising from their breaths.

Hr: Ana je s Markom i Ivanom.
En: Ana is with Marko and Ivana.

En: Marko talks with Ivana about the candidates and their programs, while Ana remains silent, holding onto the cold wall.

Hr: Njezino srce tuče snažno, a tlo joj se blago njiše pod nogama.
En: Her heart beats strongly, and the ground sways slightly beneath her feet.

Hr: "Trebaš li sjesti?
En: "Do you need to sit?"

Hr: " pita Ivana, primjećujući njen blijed lice.
En: asks Ivana, noticing her pale face.

Hr: "Ne, u redu je," odgovara Ana odlučno.
En: "No, it's okay," replies Ana determinedly.

Hr: "Blizu smo.
En: "We're close."

En: But the line barely moves, and people are already feeling cold.

Hr: Kako minuta prolazi, Ana osjeća vrtoglavicu.
En: As the minutes pass, Ana feels dizzy.

En: She can't lean against the wall anymore without fear of falling.

Hr: Vid stvaraju mrlje.
En: Her vision blurs.

En: She considers giving up, but something inside her won't let go.

Hr: Moram glasati, misli.
En: I must vote, she thinks.

En: Just a little more... She is at the entrance, almost her turn, when the world starts to dim.

Hr: "Ana?

En: Ivana is worried when she sees her sway.

En: Ana collapses to the floor before Marko and Ivana can react.

Hr: Svi su priskočili u pomoć.
En: Everyone rushes to help.

Hr: Srećom, Ivana je medicinska sestra.
En: Fortunately, Ivana is a nurse.

Hr: Kleči kraj Ane, brzo provjerava puls i podiže joj noge da joj se vrati svijest.
En: She kneels beside Ana, quickly checks her pulse, and lifts her legs to restore consciousness.

Hr: "Ana, možeš li me čuti?
En: "Ana, can you hear me?"

Hr: "Polako, Ana otvara oči.
En: Slowly, Ana opens her eyes.

En: She is confused but soon realizes what happened.

En: "I need to vote," she says weakly, trying to get up, but Ivana gently stops her.

Hr: "Smiri se.
En: "Calm down.

En: Let's get you to vote, and then we'll take you to the doctor," says Ivana with a smile, keeping an eye on Ana.

En: Inside the center, people move aside so Ana can vote quickly.

En: Her hand trembles as she marks the ballot, but her gaze remains resolute.

Hr: Nakon što ubacila listić, Anino lice izražava olakšanje.
En: After dropping the ballot in the box, Ana's face shows relief.

En: On their way out, Marko and Ivana support Ana, who leans on them.

Hr: "Zahvalna sam vam.
En: "I'm grateful to you.

En: I must think about myself and not just my duties," Ana sighs as they lead her outside.

Hr: Zima steže još jače oko njih, ali Ana, sada oslobođena tereta dužnosti, osjeća malo lakše u srcu.
En: The winter grips even tighter around them, but Ana, now relieved of her duty's burden, feels a bit lighter at heart.

En: She knew it was right to fulfill her civic duty, but she also learned a valuable lesson about the importance of self-care.

En: It's hard to take steps, but friends and determination keep her strong.
