When Cherie Gregoire was asking Cambridgeshire's councillors for money to build solar, some of them didn't believe in climate change. She decided she was never going to convince them, so she stopped trying. Instead she asked questions they could all say yes to. Does the council need more money? Is this low-risk? Is the electricity free once it's built? Her first solar farm, she says, cleared a couple of hundred thousand pounds in its first year.

Cherie started out as a Department of Defense intern working on tank cannons, until one overheard conversation made her change degrees. We talk about solar on school roofs that helped keep teachers employed, turning park-and-ride car parks into mini grids, why giving electricity away is harder than it sounds, choosing a home by the flood maps the week Cyclone Alfred hit Brisbane, and why insurers already believe in climate change even if your neighbours don't. Recorded in March 2025, re-edited and shared again because the argument she makes works on anyone, whatever they believe.
