A 25-year-old Venezuelan man stands accused of fatally shooting Sheridan Gorman, a Loyola University freshman. The 18-year-old was walking with friends near campus, reportedly hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.  Near the pier at Tobey Prinz Beach, a man wearing a mask and dressed in all black clothing, ambushed the group. As they ran, Jose Medina, 25, opened fire. Gorman was shot in the back. Using surveillance video, police tracked Medina, who was arrested at his apartment just blocks from the scene. Officers allegedly found clothing and a 40-caliber handgun matching shell casings found at the scene. The attempted murder trial of Maui anesthesiologist, Dr. Gerhardt Konig, is underway in Honolulu. Each side is describing O'ahu's Pali Puka trail, but have different stories of what happened there almost exactly a year ago. Arielle says her husband dragged her toward the cliff’s edge, attempted to inject her with “an unknown substance” using a syringe, and hit her “repeatedly on the head” with a rock. Konig claims he was NOT trying to kill his wife, and acted in self-defense after Arielle attacked him when he threatened to expose an alleged affair with a married co-worker. Jurors hear a witness's 911 call, watch body-worn camera footage from a responding officer, and see photos of Arielle's brutal injuries. Konig's adult son is expected to testify about a video call his father made after the attack that prosecutors are calling a confession. Arielle Konig is expected to take the stand against her husband next week. Kenny Kinsey, a forensic investigator who testified for the prosecution in the 2023 Murdaugh murder trial, is now independently investigating death of Stephen Smith. He says he believes key opportunities were missed early in the 2015 case. Discovery of Stephen's body reported to 911. He suffered a 7½-inch skull fracture. Smith's death was initially investigated as a hit-and-run but investigators say the evidence did not support that as a cause of death.
