Kicking off our study of the films of David Lynch, The Elephant Man is a heartbreaking look into the mistreatment of those who look different than us. John Merrick (John Hurt), born with a number of physical deformities, has been mistreated and abused all through his life until he's taken in to be studied by Dr. Treves (Anthony Hopkins). Instead of finding a monster, Treves discovers the gentle heart of John and seeks to give him a better life.
