On the second day of jury selection for Karen Read's retrial, April 2, 2025, five additional jurors were seated, bringing the total to seven—comprising four men and three women. The court aims to empanel 16 jurors, including four alternates. The day's proceedings involved questioning a new pool of 87 potential jurors, supplemented by approximately 35 individuals who had been deferred from the previous day. Among these, 77 acknowledged prior awareness of the case, 38 admitted to having formed opinions, and 14 expressed biases. Despite these preconceptions, the court focused on identifying individuals capable of impartiality.

Judge Beverly Cannone emphasized the anticipated six to eight-week duration of the trial, underscoring the commitment required from jurors. Both the prosecution and defense teams continued their efforts to ensure a fair and unbiased jury, mindful of the extensive media coverage and public interest surrounding the case. The selection process is expected to continue in the coming days until the full jury panel is established.
