Tara Fingold is the founder and principal designer of Tara Fingold Interiors (TFI Design Group), a Toronto residential design studio she established in the late 1990s. Tara grew up in the city, the daughter of an English immigrant who built his own contracting business from nothing, and she spent her childhood tagging along on his job sites, absorbing how he managed trades, clients, and a small team he treated like family.After an undergraduate degree at Western and design and drafting courses at Ryerson and Sheridan, Tara cut her teeth doing store fixturing and visual merchandising for Calvin Klein Canada, traveling the country to set up shops for the brand's major retail accounts. She then apprenticed under a Toronto residential designer, learning the trade from sourcing fabric to hand drafting floor plans, before opening her own studio.Today, Tara leads a team of designers on projects across Ontario, New York, and Florida, ranging from kitchen renovations to ground-up new builds, including one of the more unusual commissions of her career: a residential mikvah room, built under rabbinic supervision. She now shares an office with her husband, architect Richard Librach, and the two collaborate daily across their practices. Greg is a partner at Patkau Architects in Vancouver, one of Canada's most internationally recognized architecture practices. Born and raised on Vancouver's North Shore, Greg came to architecture by an unconventional path: he first completed a philosophy degree, worked through a career counseling process, and only decided to pursue architecture after visiting the Seabird Island School and speaking with practitioners he found in the yellow pages, including Patkau's own John and Patricia Patkau. He studied architecture at UBC, working during school for Acton Ostry Architects under Russell Acton, where he learned the discipline of rigorous, detail driven drawing.Greg joined Patkau Architects in 1997, cutting his teeth on the Oakdale Community Centre in Toronto, a design build project awarded under the former City of North York. From there he grew alongside the practice through a dramatic shift in scale, becoming part of the team behind the Grande Bibliothèque du Québec, a project he credits with teaching him how organizational clarity can define a building's relationship to a city.More recently, Greg has led work on Kìwekì Point in Ottawa, a landscape and architecture collaboration that reimagined the former Nepean Point, and the UBC School of Biomedical Engineering, a 150,000 square foot lab and teaching building designed and delivered almost entirely through the pandemic.Outside the studio, Greg plays double bass, having come up through Vancouver's jazz scene in bands like Video Barbecue and the Jazzmanian Devils. Joel Loblaw is the founder and principal of Joel Loblaw Inc., a Toronto based landscape design and build studio launched in 2011, and a longtime friend of the show. Born in Chicago, Joel moved to Toronto with his family at age five and grew up in the city's Beaches neighbourhood, where camping trips to Algonquin Park starting at age ten rooted a lifelong connection to the outdoors, one he still returns to through backcountry canoe trips and portages. He ran a student lawn cutting business as a teenager and backpacked around Europe after high school before entering landscape architecture at what was then Ryerson University as a mature student, drawing on prior construction work in stonework.Joel built his early career at Park Lane, led by Landscape Ontario founding figure Casey van Maris, before becoming a founding principal of Earth Inc., a Toronto landscape firm he helped lead for thirteen years with colleagues James Dale and Kennedy McRae, shaped on design by Lorne Hancock, the trio behind the HGTV series Dirty Business. In 2011 he launched his own studio, later joined by his sister and business partner, Lindsy Gregory. His work is grounded in balance, scale and proportion, evolving from traditional design toward a modern practice shaped by travel to gardens across Europe, including the model gardens of Piet Oudolf and Mien Ruys in the Netherlands. Lighting and the integration of art and sculpture, drawn from his own painting practice, recur throughout his work, recently informed by Italian architect Stefano Pujatti of ElasticoSPA.Joel lives with his wife, Michelle, a fine arts graduate and furniture designer, and their two sons near Meaford, Ontario, on a ten acre property with a trout pond and a home designed by architect Brian O'Brian. Will is the National Director of IDS (Interior Design Show), Canada's leading design show, spanning editions in Toronto and Vancouver. Born and raised in North London, Will grew up immersed in the design world. His parents founded a corporate identity studio that grew from a handful of people to roughly 250 employees, working with clients like British Airways and Royal Mail, with offices in London, Amsterdam, and New York.Will studied at NYU, spending a foundational year in Florence before completing an interdisciplinary degree focused on diasporic studies and intercultural relationships. While at NYU, he worked in the university's scene shop building sets and props for theatre productions, an experience he credits as the real starting point of his events career.After graduating, Will returned to the UK and joined the British Council, where he spent years as a project manager touring UK design and architecture exhibitions internationally, including two years managing the British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. He went on to work with his parents' charitable foundation on youth design centers, a placemaking consultancy, and then Tom Dixon, where he built and ran a large multi brand design show in Milan from scratch. He later became deputy director, then director, of Design Junction in London, a furniture and lighting show known for taking over unconventional industrial venues.Will moved to Canada in January 2020 after marrying a Canadian from Victoria, BC, and deciding to relocate following Brexit. He joined IDS about four years ago, taking on the show shortly after the pandemic and leading a rebrand and repositioning, shifting its focus toward the trade and design industry audience, introducing features like a scaffolding based lighting section to lower barriers to entry for smaller manufacturers, and planning a significantly expanded 2027 edition centered on residential design.Outside of work, Will lives in Victoria, BC, where he paddleboards, walks the beach, and spends time with his wife and children, while splitting his working time between Toronto and Vancouver for the shows. Sean Lawrence is a founding partner of Kohn Partnership Architects (KPA), a Toronto-based practice he established in 2002 alongside, the now retired, Harry Kohn. Born and raised in Toronto, Sean traces his interest in architecture to childhood, when his family commissioned a country home from a Toronto architect and he watched an idea move from sketch to built reality. He began his architectural studies at Carleton University before transferring to the Architectural Association (AA) in London, one of the world's most influential schools of architecture, where he studied during a period that included figures such as Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, and Will Alsop.Sean spent his early career in England, working with the firm then known as Farrell Grimshaw and later with Jestico and Wiles, where he contributed to award-winning industrial and commercial projects, including a Financial Times award for industrial architecture. He returned to Toronto in the mid-1980s and worked with Moffat Kinoshita Architects and Young and Wright Architects, where he played a central role in designing the hotel, restaurants, food service facilities, and private clubs for what is now the Rogers Centre, working alongside the broader SkyDome project team.Following the early 1990s recession, Sean continued in private practice in Toronto before co-founding Kohn Partnership Architects with Harry Kohn in 2002. Tim Ng is the founder and CEO of AdHoc Studio, one of the top rendering and visualization companies in North America, and the founder of Blackline, a leading sales and marketing CRM platform built for the new development and pre-construction industry. Born and raised in Toronto's North York neighbourhood, Tim grew up immersed in real estate. His father was among the first pre-construction condominium brokers in Toronto, drawing on real estate practices from Hong Kong, while his mother spent more than thirty years working for one of the city's top developers. That early exposure, along with an entrepreneurial streak that had him building and managing client websites before he was a teenager, shaped the direction of his career.Tim studied business at Ryerson University's Ted Rogers School of Management, working internships and co-ops in finance throughout his degree. Elaine Molinar is a Partner and Managing Director for the Americas at Snøhetta, the international architecture, landscape, and design practice. Born in El Paso, Texas, she grew up in a household shaped by craft and problem solving. Her father, a pharmacist, was also a self taught woodworker and photographer, and her grandfather had worked in a railroad steel yard, building his own tools. Her mother taught her to sew, embroider, and draw from an early age. Elaine trained seriously in ballet starting at age twelve and received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to attend the San Francisco Ballet School for two summers.She began her studies at Texas Christian University, where a history of interiors course, an engineering drawing class taught by an architect, and countless weekends spent at Louis Kahn's Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth led her toward architecture. She transferred to the University of Texas at Austin to complete its five year professional architecture program, and during her studies she completed a professional residency in Los Angeles at the office of architect Barton Myers.After graduating, Elaine worked briefly at the Los Angeles firm DeBretteville and Polyzoides. In 1989, she joined a team of friends and colleagues who won the international design competition to reimagine the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the ancient library of Alexandria, Egypt. That win led her to relocate to Oslo, Norway, joining the newly formed practice Snøhetta, named for a mountain in central Norway. She spent sixteen years there as the firm grew through design competitions, including the Lillehammer Art Museum built for the 1994 Winter Olympics.In 2004, Elaine helped establish Snøhetta's New York studio, the firm's second office, to lead its work on the National September 11 Memorial pavilion at the World Trade Center site. Under her leadership, the studio grew from a handful of people to a firm with seven offices worldwide and approximately 250 employees. Her recent work includes the shade canopy and courtyard redesign at the University of Texas at Austin's Blanton Museum of Art and the STEAM discovery center in her hometown of El Paso. Colette van den Thillart is an interior designer born in Orangeville, Ontario, who grew up in Mississauga. She traces her passion for design to childhood, including a bedroom she designed herself at six or seven, with grass green shag carpet, daisy wallpaper, and yellow curtains, later recreated and shared on Instagram. She began her career after a two year diploma at the International Academy in Toronto, working first for a small residential firm before joining Toronto designer Brian Gluckstein, spending roughly a decade helping grow the studio from a handful of people to eighteen.A move to London with her husband and young children led Colette to complete a Master's degree in decorative arts through a program based at the Wallace Collection, studying English country houses and French estates. She then spent twelve years as Creative Director for British designer Nicky Haslam at NH Design, working on projects from a grade two star listed historic restoration to residences in Istanbul and Marrakesh.About a decade ago, Colette returned to Toronto and founded her own eponymous studio, now a team of seven handling residential projects worldwide alongside commissions such as the interiors of one of the country's oldest private members clubs. Her practice is guided by a belief in atmosphere over trend and transparent trade pricing. Her work has earned ARIDO Residential and Loft Conversion Gold Awards, House & Home's Designer of the Year, and the Designer Society of America's Design 360 Award. Daniel Baumann and Vanessa Kassabian are the two leaders running Henning Larsen's New York studio, and their combined story runs from childhood living rooms all the way to construction sites around the world.Vanessa grew up in a matriarchal household in San Antonio and Houston, patching drywall and hanging blinds long before she ever set foot in a drafting class. That class, in middle school, was the first of many steps that carried her through Tulane's five year architecture program and into an early career shaped by a tough economy, a decade at a Norwegian design firm, and a deliberate pause to raise her son. She landed at Henning Larsen in 2025, in a role she describes as a full circle moment.Daniel's path started an ocean away, in a small town in South Germany and then Copenhagen, where he grew up an introverted kid who loved books and drawing and, by his own admission, hated sports. He found his footing on a Danish tall ship during his military service, then later at the Royal Academy, through a bruising master's program at London's Bartlett, and through a grinding stint at Foster and Partners before he joined Henning Larsen. He eventually helped open the New York office in 2018, and he speaks openly about a burnout he went through and how it reshaped the way he leads today.Daniel and Vanessa speak candidly about the parts of architecture school that never get taught, things like management, finances, and resilience. Emma and Darcy are the founding principals of & Daughters, a Vancouver based architecture and interior design studio established nearly a decade ago. The two met during their first week in the Master of Architecture program at the University of British Columbia's School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, where a shared preference for desks near natural light placed them side by side in studio. They developed a close friendship throughout school, collaborating on design build projects and studio work before launching their own practice together in their late twenties.Emma began her design career at Vancouver based St. Marie, where she served as project lead on the Botanist restaurant at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. Darcy spent roughly six years at the boutique residential firm Scott Posno Design, taking on responsibilities spanning consultant coordination, municipal approvals, and client relations. Their earliest independent commissions included a condominium renovation in Vancouver's West End and a barn on a family property east of Oshawa, Ontario.The studio gained wider recognition for its design of a sushi focused cocktail bar above Namos restaurant on Fraser Street in Vancouver, developed for the restaurant's owners. Working with a limited budget inside an unremarkable existing space, Emma and Darcy built their design strategy around lighting, using warm amber toned illumination to create an immersive, sunset like atmosphere throughout the room. Photography of the completed project drew significant attention and helped establish the studio's reputation in hospitality design.& Daughters now works across residential and commercial hospitality projects, with a growing focus on refined interiors for restaurants, bars, and homes.
