Episode 212: Michael Woodmansee

It's time for another installment of True Crime New England's case profile mini-episode series. Today, Katie begins the episode by telling the story of the random murder of 31-year-old mom Grisel Sanchez in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 2015. Then, Liz shares the details of the senseless murder of 28-year-old Dantley Leonard, also in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 2016. Take a trip back in time this week on True Crime New England as Katie and Liz discuss the story of “The Gentleman Burglar.” In the late 1800s, small town Chester, Vermont was terrorized by sixteen years of random and heinous robberies in both local stores and local homes. The townspeople were furious and frightened, but luckily they had a hardworking public figure to help them solve the mystery. Clarence Adams, a once state legislator and highly respected member of the town, helped approve security plans, hire detectives, and even kicked in some of his own personal money as a part of the reward. His efforts were highly respected until one night in July of 1902, an incident that left Clarence injured had all signs pointing to HIM as the main suspect for the string of robberies. Today, Liz starts off with a horribly confusing case involving the brutal beating and murder of Vernon Lomba Jr. in Cranston, Rhode Island in 1984. Then, Katie discusses the absolutely heinous murder of Hai Bo Lei out of Salem, New Hampshire, in 1995. Katie and Liz kick off the new year by sharing the horrid story of Michael Woodmansee out of South Kingstown, Rhode Island. Michael was 16-years-old when he killed and cannibalized 5-year-old Jason Foreman in May of 1975. It wasn’t until 1982 that Michael would confess to the crime, admitting that he sexually assaulted the child before stabbing him. Michael would eventually plead guilty and be sentenced to 40 years in prison. In 2011, 28 years into his sentence, Michael was released, causing an upset in the whole nation.

Another Sunday, another mini-episode! This week, Katie and Liz stick to the usual heartwrenching stories of people of color in New England. Katie starts off the episode with the story of the upsetting death of 23-year-old Angelica Martinez, who was found in Springfield, Massachusetts in April of 2003. Then Liz talks about the disturbing story of the murder of 8-month-old Aisha Dickson, who was found unresponsive and with every bone broken in her body in Bangor, Maine in January of 1995. For their last episode of 2025, Katie and Liz continue the tradition of talking about big events to close out the year. What could be better than discussing the Great Molasses Flood of Boston? An unseasonably warm January day in 1919 would live on infamously as a 50 foot tall metal tank containing over 2.3 million gallons of molasses burst, creating a giant tidal wave. The force of the dense molasses killed 21 people and injured over 150 more, killed dozens of horses and swept buildings off of their foundations. Tune in to this week’s episode of True Crime New England to hear all of the details of this sticky situation.

Today, Katie and Liz share two stories that have felt like a theme throughout these episodes. First, Liz tells of the murder of Luis Fernando Gonzalez-Sandoz, a man who was shot in the streets of Fair Haven, Connecticut in 2011. Katie then discusses the mysterious disappearance of Jesus De La Cruz in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1996. On November 28th, 1998, 34-year-old trans woman Rita Hester was found stabbed to death in her Allston, Massachusetts apartment. What followed was local media and law enforcement misgendering and deadnaming her, putting a harsh mark on trying to raise awareness of a woman who was so brutally slain.
