Arnie Lerma : Scientology Whistleblower Part 2By Ed Opperman

Arnaldo Pagliarini "Arnie" Lerma (November 18, 1950 – March 16, 2018) was an American writer and activist, a former Scientologist, and a critic of Scientology who appeared in television, media and radio interviews. Lerma was the first person to post the court document known as the Fishman Affidavit, including the Xenu story, to the Internet via the Usenet newsgroup alt.religion.scientology. Lerma started in Scientology at the age of 16 at the urging of his mother, an executive director for the Washington, DC church. He was impressed by L. Ron Hubbard's exaggerated account of his military career and scientific credentials.[1]Lerma joined Scientology's Sea Org and was assigned in 1976 to a post working alongside Hubbard's daughter Suzette. He later claimed that they became romantically involved and planned to elope, though others[who?] have disputed this. Lerma alleged that other Sea Org officers discovered their plans and threatened to mutilate him if he did not cancel the marriage. Lerma quit Scientology soon afterward.

In the early 1970s, teenage boys began disappearing across Houston, Texas. One by one, they vanished, leaving behind empty bedrooms, unanswered questions, and a city that chose not to look too closely.Police called them runaways while parents were told to be patient. Lack of concern caused a pattern to go unnoticed, until a single phone call changed everything. On August 8, 1973, a teenage boy confessed to killing a man and exposed a horror hidden in plain sight. What followed was one of the most disturbing discoveries in American criminal history: a network of abduction, torture, and murder that had operated undetected for years. In The "Candy Man" Murders, Jen Schaffer delivers a haunting, deeply researched account of the Houston Mass Murders. Through meticulous investigation and gripping narrative, she reveals not only the crimes themselves but the systemic failures, cultural blind spots, and quiet complicity that allowed them to continue.Because the most terrifying truth isn’t just what happened—it’s how long no one stopped it.Jen Schaffer is a Houston-based author, podcaster, and historical crime researcher exploring Texas crime history and the communities it shaped. She hosts Crude Acts: A Texas True Crime Podcast, now in its fourth season, and has appeared on Texas True Crime (ABC), Bloodline Detectives, Green Eyed Killers, and Stalked.Jen writes using her Lens Method: each book opens with the case, steps back to examine the world around the crime (its history, money, politics, and documented events), then brings that lens back to the case for another look.BookCrude Acts Podcast

In January of 1989 the director of Oregon’s Department of Corrections, Michael Francke, was brutally stabbed todeath outside his office in Salem. The murder was quickly ruled a “car burglary gone wrong” and pinned on alow-level drug dealer named Frank Gable, a man who Francke's own brother, Kevin, along with storied Oregonreporter Phil Stanford, believe has been wrongfully imprisoned for nearly 30 years. They believe Francke haduncovered a trail of corruption in the prison system— one that led to the top of Oregon’s political establishment.Murder In Oregon follows the two men on a decades-long journey, bordering on obsession, into Oregon’s drugand crime-infested underworld to answer one question: Who really killed Michael Francke?
