The Sifu Mimi Chan Show

In this episode, I sit down with actor and filmmaker Gabriel Prevost-Takahashi, who recently brought Lieutenant Khettry to life in Season 2 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Gabriel and I get into the weeds on his approach to movement preparation, what music inspires him, and his deep respect for the stunt team—including his double, Alex Law—who helped make the Ba Sing Se action sequences so impactful. Beyond the choreography, we dive into our shared passion for history and representation. We discuss his upcoming project, Go For Broke, and the incredible, often-overlooked legacy of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during WWII. I’ve been enjoying these conversations and hope you have too.  If you have, please rate my podcast on your platform of choice and share it with others!  If you would like to support with a donation to help keep this podcast going and support the work I do, you can become a patron of the show by visiting my website or Get more from Mimi Chan on Patreon. It’s another fun chat with Greg Rucka on The Mimi and Greg Show. Just like the old days… we talk writing process for novels and comics. Batwoman, Atticus Kodiak, and more. We also share our most recent reads. Quick correction: I drew a blank when talking about Joe Abercrombie’s character Logen Ninefingers at the end, so forgive me! If you aren’t already subscribed to Greg Rucka’s newsletter, Front Towards Enemy, do yourself a favor and sign up—it’s free, it’s brilliant, and it’s the perfect way to stay up to date on all things Rucka. For those that don’t already know: Greg Rucka is a New York Times bestselling author of hundreds of comics and nearly two dozen novels. He is also the writer for his critically acclaimed and award winning film The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron. MiOsc is back discussing America’s 250th anniversary – Semiquincentennial, and the alignment of milestones. Die-hard podcast fans: The Mimi and Greg Show version is back today! Grateful to catch up with my dear friend Greg Rucka as we share thoughts on the world today. It’s not a typical Rucka Rant episode, but we do get into the weeds about recognizing our allies, learning to trust one another, and allowing grace for our fellow humans. We also share our take on the New York Knicks NBA Champions, the energy around NY that was contagious in the best way. Shout out to my friend Spencer Ackerman, whose newsletter I’m linking in the show notes.  Read his excellent recap on being a New Yorker amidst this phenomenon. Stay tuned for Greg’s official Lazarus and Batwoman update at the end. History is more than a collection of dates and names in a textbook; it is a living narrative shaped by the records we choose to keep. Without intentional preservation, vital stories, cultural lineages, and wisdom risk being lost to time. In this episode, I share the importance of archiving to ensure historical accuracy for future generations. We explore why preserving our past is the ultimate act of protecting our future. Plus highlights of my recent travels to Greece and Türkiye. Coach Dan John and I continue our ongoing Sword in the Stone journey—using this classic book as a guide to examine the world we live in today. As an exceptional educator and mentor to many, I am grateful that Dan continues to take time out of his busy schedule to geek out and philosophize with me. In this episode, we explore parallels between films like Star Wars, Game of Thrones, The Hobbit, The Iliad, and many more. He also shares wisdom on being present and situational awareness. Greg Rucka and I are back in what has become The Mimi and Greg Show since 2019! This episode is jam-packed with comics talk: Lazarus, Batwoman, Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League, The Forged, plus some Superman insight!
