D: Θα πάρω την φωτογραφική μηχανή, δύο τζιν παντελόνια, έξι μπλουζάκια, ένα φόρεμα για την παραλία και δύο φορέματα για έξω, τα πέδιλά, τις σαγιονάρες, το μαγιό και τα γυαλιά ηλίου. Θέλω να αγοράσω ένα καπέλο από την Ελλάδα. / I'll take the camera, two pairs of jeans, six t-shirts, a beach dress, and two dresses for going out, the sandals, flip-flops, swimsuit, and sunglasses. I want to buy a hat from Greece. E: Τέλεια! Α! Να μην ξεχάσουμε τα διαβατήρια μας! / Great! Oh! Let's not forget our passports! Για το μακαρόνι, δοκίμασε να το μαγειρέψεις ένα ή δύο λεπτά λιγότερο από τις οδηγίες της συσκευασίας και βεβαιώσου ότι το στραγγίζεις καλά πριν τα τοποθετήσεις στο ταψί. Όσο για τη σάλτσα, αφήσε τη να σιγοβράσει λίγο περισσότερο για να πυκνώσει. / Ah, I see. For the pasta, try cooking it one or two minutes less than the package instructions and make sure to drain it well before placing it in the pan. As for the sauce, let it simmer a little longer to thicken. D: Αααα κατάλαβα. Θα το δοκιμάσω ξανά ακολουθώντας τις συμβουλές σου. Θύμισε μου πως φτιάχνουμε τη μπεσαμέλ. / Ahh, I got it. I'll try it again following your advice. Remind me how we make the bechamel sauce. Ε: Ωραια! Πρώτα, θα λιωσεις το βούτυρο σε μια κατσαρόλα σε μέτρια φωτιά. / Great! First, you'll melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. D: Πόσο βούτυρο θα πρέπει να χρησιμοποιήσω; / How much butter should I use? E: Θα χρειαστείς περίπου 6 κουταλιές της σούπας βούτυρο για τη σάλτσα. Αφού λιώσει, πρόσθεσε ίση ποσότητα αλεύρι. / You'll need about 6 tablespoons of butter for the sauce. Once it's melted, add an equal amount of flour. D: Κατάλαβα. Για πόση ώρα πρέπει να το μαγειρέψω αυτό; / I see. How long should I cook this for? Ε: Για περίπου 2-3 λεπτά, ανακατεύοντας συνεχώς μέχρι να πάρει ένα χρυσαφένιο χρώμα. Στη συνέχεια, αργά προσθεσε ζεστό γάλα, περίπου 2 φλιτζάνια, για να αποφύγεις τους σβολους. / For about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown. Then slowly add warm milk, about 2 cups, to avoid lumps. D: Πρέπει το γάλα να είναι ζεστό; / Should the milk be warm? E: Ναι. Αφού προσθέσεις όλο το γάλα, συνέχισε το ανακάτεμα μέχρι να πυκνώσει η σάλτσα. Συνήθως παίρνει περίπου 5-7 λεπτά. / Yes. After you've added all the milk, continue stirring until the sauce thickens. It usually takes about 5-7 minutes. D: Πρέπει να την αρωματίσω κατά τη διάρκεια; / Should I season it during cooking? Ε: Ναι ναι! Θα βάλεις μισή κουτάλια της σούπας μοσχοκάρυδο, λίγο αλάτι και λίγο πιπέρι. Εμένα μου αρέσει πολύ να βαζω και τριμμένη παρμεζάνα από πάνω. /Yes, yes! D: Συνήθως χρησιμοποιώ ένα μείγμα από σόγια σως, σκόρδο και λίγο μέλι για γλυκύτητα. Είναι απλό αλλά νόστιμο. / I usually use a mix of soy sauce, garlic, and a little honey for sweetness. It's simple but tasty. E: Μμμμ Ακούγεται πεντανόστιμο. Θα το δοκιμάσω. Ευχαριστώ! / Mmm sounds delicious. I'll try it. Thank you! D: Να μου πεις πώς σου βγηκε. Ήμουν στο δωμάτιο μου και είχα πολύ διάβασμα και γύρω στη μία λέω “Δεν πάω μία βόλτα για διάλειμμα;” και πήγα έξω και… ήταν πολύ ωραία και… άρχισε να βρέχει. / emmm not exactly. I was in my bedroom and I had a lot to study and around 1 o’clock I said “Why don’t I go for a little walk to have a break?” and I went outside…and it was nice…and it started raining.  D: Γιώργο! Άφησε τις ιστορίες και πες αμέσως τι έγινε! Πού είσαι τώρα; / George! Stop with your stories and tell me now what happened. Where are you now? E: Στην αστυνομία Καλαμαριάς. / At the police station in Kalamaria D: Στην αστυνομία; Γιατί στην αστυνομία; / At the police station? Like I said it started raining and I said: “I have to get the car so I don’t get wet” and I got … the car and… D: Το αυτοκίνητο ΜΟΥ; Πήρες το αυτοκίνητό μου; / MY CAR? Did you take my car? E: Εεε εγώ δεν έχω όπως ξέρεις. / emm I don’t have one as you know!  D: Γιώργο! Τι έγινε; Τι έκανες; Χτύπησες κανέναν άνθρωπο; Έπαθες κάτι εσύ; / George! What happened? What did you do? Did you hit anyone? Did anything happen to you?  E: Εντάξει είμαι… ένα μικρό ατύχημα είχα. Γλίστρησε το αυτοκίνητο και έπεσε πάνω σε μία στάση λεωφορείου αλλά ευτυχώς δεν υπήρχαν άνθρωποι και… ήρθε η τροχαία και δεν είχα δίπλωμα και τώρα είμαι εδώ.. / I am ok…I had a small accident.. The car slipped and it hit a bus station but thankfully nobody was there and… the traffic police came and I didn’t have my license and now I am here..   D: Γιώργο, ένα λεπτό. Το αυτοκίνητο που είναι; / George! One second. Where is the car now? E: Στην στάση… ή μάλλον μέσα στη στάση! / at the bus station…or better inside the bus station!   D: Έρχομαι. Περίμενε με. Και.. D: Στολίσατε την εκκλησία και την κολυμπήθρα; / Did you decorate the church and the baptistery? E: Δεν στολίσαμε την εκκλησία, ούτε την κολυμπήθρα γιατί δεν μας άφησαν. Στολίσαμε όμως το εξοχικό μας που έγινε το πάρτυ μετά την βάφτιση. / No we didn’t decorate the church, neither the baptistery because they didn’t let us. We decorated our beach house though where we had the party after the baptism. D: Ο Αχιλλέας πώς ήτανε; Έκλαψε καθόλου; / How was Achilleas? Did he cry at all? E: Άσε, έκανε πολλή ζέστη και ήταν γκρινιάρης. Όταν βγάλαμε τα ρούχα και οι νονές βάλανε το λάδι ήταν ήρεμος. Αλλά μόλις ο παπάς τον έβαλε στο νερό άρχισε να κλαίει πολύ. Μετά του έκοψε τα μαλλιά και φόρεσε τα βαφτιστικά του. Του έδωσα και ένα μπισκοτάκι και ηρέμισε. / It was extremely hot and he was fussy. When we took his clothes off and his godmathers put the oil on him, he was calm. But when the priest put him in the water he started crying a lot. After that we gave him a cookie and he was calm.  D: Αχ ψυχή μου! Πως περάσατε στο πάρτυ; / Aww my heart! How was the party? E: Περάσαμε αξέχαστα. Είχαμε μπομπονιέρες και σαμπάνια στην είσοδο για τους καλεσμένους. Είχαμε πολύ φαγητό, σουβλάκια, μπριζόλες, κοτόπουλο ψητό, σαλάτες και πατάτες. / We had a great time. We had the baptism favors and some campaign in the entrance for our friends. We had a lot of food, souvlakia, steak, chichen, salads and potatoes. D: Πω πω ακούγονται νόστιμα. / Po po they sound delicious.  E: Ήταν όλα πεντανόστιμα. Είχαμε και δύο φωτογράφους και βγάλαμε πολλές φωτογραφίες. Ο Αχιλλέας όμως ήταν πολύ κουρασμένος και πήγε για ύπνο νωρίς. Μετά εμείς ξεκινήσαμε τον χορό και τα κοκτέιλ. / Everything was delicious. We had two photographers and we took a lot of pictures. But Achilleas was very tired and he went to bed early. After that we started dancing and drinking cocktails.  D: Φαντάζομαι και πολύ καλά κάνατε. Ο μικρός είμαι σίγουρη ότι ήταν πολύ κουρασμένος. Τώρα θα αρχίσω να ετοιμάζω και εγώ την βάφτιση της μικρής μας. / I can imagine and you did the right thing. I am sure that the little one was very tired. I have to start planning my daughter’s baptism as well.  E: Ναι να ξεκινήσεις νωρίς! / Yes, you need to get started soon. D: Παρακαλώ; / Hello? E: Έλα Δανάη, η Εμιλυ είμαι. Τι κανεις; / Hello Danai, Emily here, how are you? D: Καλα Εμιλυ μου, εσυ; / I am good Emily, and you? E: Πολύ καλά! Άκουσα στις ειδήσεις ότι είχατε πολύ άσχημο καιρό εκεί στο Illinois με πολύ χαμηλές θερμοκρασίες και χιόνι. / Very good! I heard on the news that you had bad weather in Illinois with low temperatures and snow. D: Αχ άσε… έχει τώρα δύο εβδομάδες που η θερμοκρασία έχει κολλήσει στους -25 με -30 βαθμούς Κελσίου! / Yes! It’s been two weeks since the temperature is stuck on the -25 to -30 degrees celsius!  E: Πω πω μα τι λες τώρα! Πως πηγαίνετε στις δουλειές σας; / Po po what are you saying? How are you going to work? D: Ε στην αρχή ήταν δύσκολα γιατί έπεσε απότομα η θερμοκρασία αλλά μετά τις πρώτες τέσσερις πέντε μέρες το συνηθίσαμε. / At the beginning it was very difficult because the temperature dropped but after the first 4-5 days we got used to it!   E: Μα καλά, συνηθίζεται τέτοιο κρύο; / but how do you get use to this cold? D: Όχι εύκολα! (laughing) / Not easily  E: Το σκυλάκι σας πως το βγάζετε βολτα; / how do you take your dog out for a walk? D: Στην αρχή και εκείνη είχε σοκαριστεί πολύ από το κρύο. Δεν μπορούσε να περπατήσει. / At the beginning she was in shock from the low temperatures, she couldn’t walk. E: Πω πω! Ρεεε το καημένο το σκυλί! / Po Po! Reeeee poor dog  D:  Άσε! Εσάς εκεί τι λέει ο καιρός; / How is the weather over there? E: Πωωωω και εδώ τα ίδια αλλά όχι σαν εσάς. Εδώ έφτασε μέχρι -10 το πολύ αλλά δεν είμαστε συνηθισμένοι στα κρύα. / Pooooo here the same but not like over there. Here it reached -10 the most but we are not used to the cold.  D: Είδαμε και εμάς που είμαστε. Για να βγω έξω φορούσα σκουφί και γάντια εννοείται, μακρύ μπουφάν μέχρι τον αστράγαλο, τρεις τεσσερις μπλούζες, παντελόνι του σκι και μπότες με γούνα. / Yeah we are not used to it either. In order to go out I was wearing a beanie and gloves of course, long jacket till my ankle, 3-4 t-shirts, ski pants and boots with a fair.  E: ΧΑΧΑ σαν κρεμμύδι ήσουν ντυμένη. Απορώ πως περπατούσες. / Haha you were dressed like an onion! I am wondering how you were able to walk.  D: Πραγματικά! Ευτυχώς το σαββατοκύριακο λέει ότι θα έχει λιακάδα. / Indeed! Hopefully it says that it will be sunny on the weekend. E: Άντε ευτυχώς! / Hopefully!  D: Λοιπόν αγάπη σ αφήνω γιατί ξύπνησε το παιδί. / So I am going to go because my kid just woke up. D: Εμπρός;/ Hello? E: Γειά σου Δανάη μου εγώ είμαι η Έμιλυ / Hey Danai, it’s me Emily. D: Εμιλύ μου, τι κάνεις; / Emily, how are you? E: Όλα καλά. Εσύ πως είσαι; / Everything good, how are you? D: Καλά… δηλαδή είμαι πολύ στεναχωρημένη. / Good.. I mean I am a little sad. E: Γιατί αγάπη μου τι έγινε; / Why my love what happened? D: Ε Δεν μπορώ άλλο. Κάθε μέρα κάνω τα ίδια πράγματα. Σηκώνομαι πολύ νωρίς. Ξυπνάω τον Αλέξη και το παιδί. Ετοιμάζω το πρωινό, ντύνω το παιδί, το πάω στο σχολείο, πάω στη δουλειά μου, γυρίζω αργά το μεσημέρι και μαγειρεύω. Μετά ξανά έξω, πάω το παιδί στα αγγλικά ή στην πισίνα ή στο ωδείο. Το φέρνω ξανά στο σπίτι, έρχεται και ο Αλέξης, τρώμε όλοι μαζί και κάθε μέρα τα ίδια. Τώρα ο Αλέξης βλέπει τηλεόραση και ο μικρός λέει οτι διαβάζει αλλά εγώ νομίζω ότι παίζει στον υπολογιστή. Νομίζω χρειάζομαι χρόνο για μένα… χρειάζομαι διασκέδαση. / I can’t do this anymore. Everyday I do the same things. I get up early. I wake up Alexis and the kid. I prepare breakfast, I dress up the kid, I take him to school, I go to work,I get back late in the afternoon and I cook. Then I take the kid to English class or to the pool or the the music school. I bring him back home, Alexis comes hom too, we eat all together and everyday the same. Now Alexis is watching TV and the little one says that he is studying but I think that he is playing on his computer. I think I need some me time, I need to have fun. E: Σε καταλαβαίνω Δανάη μου. Τι λες πάμε σινεμά αύριο; / I understand Danai. What do you think, shall we go to the movies? D: Βεβαίως! Τι ωραία! Αχ, αύριο δεν μπορώ θα πάμε με τον άντρα μου στο σπίτι του διευθυντή του για φαγητό. / Of course, how nice! Ah, tomorrow I can’t, we will go wit hmy husband to his boss’ house for dinner. E: Μεθαύριο; /What about the day after tomorrow. D: Μεθαύριο ευχαρίστως! Α όχι μεθαύριο δεν μπορώ, θα πάω με μία φίλη μου σε μία έκθεση φωτογραφίας. / The day after tomorrow of course! Oh nooo the day after tomorrow I can’t, I will go to a photography gallery with a friend.  E: Τέλος πάντων! Την παρασκευή; / Anyways, Friday??? D: Ε τώρα… ξέρεις. Κάθε παρασκευή βράδυ βγαίνω με τον Αλέξη για βραδινό. Ίσως το σαββατοκύριακο… ΑΧ όχι θα πάμε εκδρομή στον Παρνασσό. / Umm, you know.. Every Friday we go out to dinner with Alexis. Maybe on the weekend! E: Δανάη μου, όταν έχεις χρόνο, μου τηλεφωνείς και βγαίνουμε! / Danai, when you have time just call me and we will meet. D: Αχ μπράβο είσαι η πιο καλή φίλη του κόσμου! / Bravo!
