We are back with another Geektown Radio podcast, and in this latest edition, I'm joined by Matt from Entertainment Talk to chat through our week in tv, film & gaming, along with all the weekly tv news, renewals and cancellations.

We begin by reviewing the last 7 days in tv, film and gaming. Matt has been back, once again, to the zombie-filled world of 'Last Of Us 2' as he tries to land those elusive last two trophies. He's also watched moving Channel 4 drama 'Help', Apple TV+ series 'See', and gives his views on the second season of 'War Of The Worlds' on Disney+/STAR. Meanwhile, I have been playing through new indie city-builder 'Timberborn' which is out now in early access on Steam. I also have been playing through prohibition Chicago in 'Empire Of Sin', so give my thoughts on both of those. On the TV side, I chat through 'Young Rock', and the return of 'The Morning Show' for a second season.

In the TV news, we run through the renewals, along with some cancellations and pickups, and talk through the Emmy wins from this weekend. We also chat about Netflix tackling another Dark Horse comic book adaptation, and giving more work to the amazing Giancarlo Esposito in a new crime thriller. Finally, we talk through the return of legendary tv show 'GamesMaster', online and on tv.

Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 55: 'NCIS: Hawaiʻi' & ‘NCIS: New Orleans' Composer Tree Adams

    19:19

In this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I'm chatting with Tree Adams, composer on 'The 100', 'NCIS: New Orleans', and the new series, 'NCIS: Hawai'i'.Tree started his musical journey as a touring musician in the 90’s with his band The Hatters, before moving into writing music for television and film. Based in LA, and with over 20 years in the business, he is a highly accomplished composer having worked on shows such as 'Lethal Weapon', 'Perception', 'Franklin & Bash' and 'Californication'.This is my second time interviewing Tree, who we first spoke to in Geektown Radio episode 110, mainly about 'The 100'. In this latest interview, we turn our focus to the recently concluded 'NCIS: New Orleans', and the brand new series 'NCIS: Hawai'i'. In both NCIS shows, Tree took the approach of using local musicians to bring a native flair to the score. For example, on 'NCIS: Hawai'i' he included things like ukuleles and Polynesian drums, but found a way of using them in new ways to fit the procedurals investigation scenes and high-octane action sequences.Outside of composing Tree also still plays live music with his new band, Dagnasterpus, who has released their self-titled debut album earlier this year, which you can find on Spotify and all the other usual places you get your music.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 54: ‘Jurassic World Evolution 2’ Game Director Rich Newbold

    22:27

In this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I'm chatting with Rich Newbold, game director at Frontier Developments for 'Jurassic World Evolution 2', which is due to be released on the 9th November 2021 across PC, Xbox and Playstation.Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to Frontier’s highly successful Jurassic World Evolution, building upon the groundbreaking and immersive 2018 management simulation. It introduces a compelling, new narrative campaign that follows on from the events of 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom', incredible new features, and awe-inspiring new dinosaurs brought to life with captivating authenticity. Together with expanded construction and more customisation options, the result is an even bigger, better and authentic Jurassic World game. The new main story features characters, with Jeff Goldblum and Bryce Dallas Howard reprising their roles, along with new dinosaurs, returning favourites, and new water and air reptiles to play with. Outside of the main story, the game features a really fun "Chaos Theory" mode, which gives you a sort of "What If?..." opportunity to remix events of the previous movies if you were in charge of the parks. This is the extended podcast version of my interview with Rich, but if you'd like to see some of the gameplay for 'Jurassic World Evolution 2', you can click here to see some exclusive new footage taken a few weeks ago when I had a chance to get my hands on the game, alongside an editing version of our chat.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 52: Stunt Special - 'Doom Patrol's Thom Khoury Williams & 'Warrior's Brett Chan Stunt Coordinators

    55:50

This episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast is something of a "stunt special" as we have two interviews. The first is with Thom Khoury WIlliams, stunt coordinator on DC's 'Doom Patrol', and Brett Chan who coordinates the martial arts epic 'Warrior'.Up first is Thom Khoury WIlliams, who has hundreds of credits to his name as a stunt performer from shows such as '24', 'NCIS', 'Lost', 'The Walking Dead' and 'The Vampire Diaries', to movies such as 'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2', 'Spider-Man: Homecoming', 'Ant-Man and the Wasp', 'Baby Driver' and 'The Matrix Resurrections'. However, we're here mainly to talk to him about his work as a stunt coordinator on the wonderfully bonkers 'Doom Patrol'.'Doom Patrol’ reimagines one of DC’s strangest group of heroes – Cliff Steele aka Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry Trainor aka Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita Farr aka Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane aka Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Victor Stone aka Cyborg (Joivan Wade) – Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities but also left them scarred and disfigured. They have been brought together by Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton) to form a, somewhat dysfunctional, family of superheroes.Thom's other stunt coordinator work includes the Marvel/Netflix show 'The Punisher', which landed him his first Emmy nomination. He also worked on the pilot of HBO's astonishing 'Watchmen' series, and was responsible for the motion capture coordination on a number of video games including 'Middle-Earth: Shadow of War', and a number of the 'Halo' games. The second interview is with Brett Chan, stunt coordinator on the martial arts epic 'Warrior'.From ‘Banshee’ creator Jonathan Tropper and ‘Fast and the Furious’ Justin Lin, based on an original concept and treatment by the legendary Bruce Lee, ‘Warrior‘ is a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the late 19th century. The series follows Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances. After proving his worth as a fighter, Ah Sahm becomes a hatchet man for the Hop Wei, one of Chinatown’s most powerful tongs (Chinese organized crime family). In the interview, we discuss getting emotion into the fight sequences and evolving the action to drive the plot. We also discuss getting in those "Bruce Lee-isms" without coming on too strong, and sending lead actor Andrew Koji to China to study karate and fight techniques, to bring culturally authentic fight choreography to the show.Brett also worked on CW's 'Kung Fu', so we chat about the differences between the two shows, and worked on two seasons of 'Snowpiercer', which comes with its own challenges of creating fight sequences in incredibly tight spaces. His latest project saw him jump in on the upcoming Paramount+ series 'Halo', based on the video game franchise, as he tackled the action there with a very quick turnaround.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Geektown Behind The Scenes Podcast 51: 'Dr. Death', 'Happy', 'Billions' VFX Supervisor Nico Del Giudice Of Molecule VFX

    29:26

On this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I am chatting with Nico Del Giudice of Molecule VFX, who has recently been working as VFX Supervisor on true-crime drama 'Dr. Death', which is currently airing on Starzplay UK and Peacock in the USA.Based on the podcast of the same name, 'Dr. Death' is inspired by the true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch, played in the show by Joshua Jackson, a rising star in the Dallas medical community who was building a flourishing neurosurgery practice when everything suddenly changed. Patients entered his operating room for complex but routine spinal surgeries but left permanently maimed or dead. As victims piled up, two fellow physicians, neurosurgeon Robert Henderson (Alec Baldwin) and vascular surgeon Randall Kirby (Christian Slater), as well as Dallas prosecutor Michelle Shughart (AnnaSophia Robb), set out to stop him.You would expect with a show like this that most of the VFX work would be recreating and emphasise the horror aspect of the doctor's gristly operations. However, due to the schedule changes cause by the pandemic, a lot of Molecule's work shifted to having to alter seasons, "greening" trees, and over 170 other invisible blending effects.Along with Nico's work on 'Dr. Death', in the interview we also chat about some of Nico's other projects. This includes the wonderfully bonkers adaptation of Grant Morrison's comic book 'Happy', which featured the titular cartoon blue unicorn, the superb 'Billions' starring Damien Lewis and Paul Giamatti, CBS's 'Elementary', and the Apple TV+ Sesame Workshop series 'Helpsters'.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown.
