Growing up in Israel during the 2nd intifada, Miri never realized she was traumatized because the abnormal was normal. The fear of taking the bus because it could explode, opening the newspaper to find names of people who died in an attack, serving in the army and knowing that she’d know someone who would be killed. She never gave the normalization of missiles and having a safe room at home and a shelter in a playscape a thought while living there. Only after moving to the US to get her doctorate did she realize how the reality she grew up in was different. After his prison sentence, Samer was elected as international secretary for the Fatah Youth. He was later elected as a head of International and Israeli relations on the Fatah Supreme Committee. For over 35 years, Samer has worked tirelessly to build bridges, engage in dialogue, and fight for a future where Israelis and Palestinians recognize each other’s humanity. In his roles as an imam and murshid, he has served British and international Muslim communities for over 15 years, advocating for a balanced and inclusive approach to Islam. Paul is the Managing Director (Amir) of the Association of British Muslims, the UK’s oldest Muslim organization.
