18:12In the Beyond Charity sermon series, consider with us an approach to community development rooted in CCDA which transforms “you, them, and theirs” to “we, us and ours” which allows us to co-create holistic flourishing in our neighborhoods, cities and beyond. Today, Pastor Stephanie shares how instead of coming with a quick-fix solution, we need to hear and answer the call of God to put ourselves in direct, personal relationship with others to discover the felt needs of the people. The components of relocation, listening to the community and mutuality guide us unlearning our instinct to quick-fixes. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wellingtonheightschurch/support

28:55In the “grind culture” that is so prevalent among us, finding a balance of work and rest seems almost impossible to embody. This Sunday, we encourage you to listen to the podcast for a “re-launch” of a sermon on the spiritual practice of Sabbath (Rest) and to consider how you may embody the prompts to create a Sabbath rhythm in your weekly schedule. May we embrace God’s good gift of rest and replenishment that will sustain us, individually and communally. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wellingtonheightschurch/support
40:32Divine Reverberations expresses the power that each individual has to make an impact. We may nurture a plant or animal. We may develop science to improve our lives. We may radiate love to others or show gratitude for the small things that bring joy. Each of these acts, no matter how small, creates a ripple that carries through the universe. Artist, Christina Farrell, features two young people in the role of protectors of our future. The person on the left tends to a narrow-leafed milkweed – a plant that is endangered in Iowa and supports the life cycle of monarch butterflies. The person on the right holds a red-shouldered hawk, also endangered in Iowa. They each emit a radiant light to represent their unique spirit and the power of the divine that exists within each of us. This ancient spiritual imagery is paired with symbols of science (light, circuits, photons, etc.) to demonstrate how we can use our intellect to imagine new solutions. Community members contributed to the mural by adding a “galaxy” of images that represent special things that they care about. The community also added circles (symbols of interconnectedness and the divine) to the bottom section to represent the unity of the Wellington Heights neighborhood.
